About this concert
WE ARE HERE is the 20th anniversary celebration spectacle of unlikely proportions by North Carolina’s own intrepid and ponderous puppet troubadours, Paperhand Puppet Intervention. WE ARE HERE to illustrate and illuminate our shared human experience using giant puppets, masks, stilts, and shadows in movement to live original music, while also looking at the perspective of foxes, bees, box turtles, woodpeckers, mushrooms and the majestic trees. WE ARE HERE to grapple with some of the emerging monsters that we all create through our unconscious behaviors and to imagine the solutionary Earth defending creatures (including us!) that rise to transform them into a sustainable future. WE ARE HERE to open a portal into wondrous realms of our collective dreams and magical possibilities that lie just below the surface of the business of everyday life. WE ARE HERE making art toward protecting the sacred and standing up for the Earth. WE ARE HERE to raise our voice for justice and for peace. WE ARE HERE now, to do our best work and live our best lives. Join us and be a part of the action! Tickets are General Admission at the door for a suggested donation of $20 for adults and $10 for children, 2 and under get in free. No one is turned away for lack of funds! Opening Act (starting at 6:20pm): September 22: Charming Disaster

Charming Disaster Biography

Brooklyn-based musical duo Charming Disaster was formed in 2012 by Ellia Bisker and Jeff Morris. Inspired by the gothic humor of Edward Gorey and Tim Burton, the murder ballads of the Americana tradition, and the dramatic flair of the cabaret, they write playfully macabre songs that tell stories about death, crime, myth, magic, folklore, science, and the occult. In their theatrical live performances, they combine vocal harmonies and clever lyrics with ukulele, guitar, and virtuosic foot percussion. Charming Disaster’s music has been featured on the podcast Welcome to Night Vale;, they have opened for legendary cello-rock ensemble Rasputina, goth icon Voltaire, and punk cabaret duo The Dresden Dolls; and their theatrical, entertaining live performances have captivated audiences across the United States. Recent appearances include Joe's Pub at The Public Theater in NYC, Brooklyn’s historic Green-Wood Cemetery, the Rochester Fringe Festival, the Edgar Allan Poe Museum in Richmond, VA, Cleveland's Wizbang Circus Theatre, and the Coney Island Sideshow stage.

“Charming Disaster are unusual, spooky, wickedly talented, and completely unafraid to delve deep into the underworld in exploration of all things lurking in the dark...they have a knack for making the macabre fun.” –Mixed Alternative

“The kind of soundtrack you'd expect to find on a 1930s cartoon about a Prohibition-era voodoo funeral...just be careful if they offer you a drink." –Goldmine

“A goth-cabaret folk vaudeville duo from Brooklyn in the dark cabaret mould of Tiger Lillies and Dresden Dolls.” –Outside Left
