Tribal Dance Biography

Tribal Dance are a progressive post-punk/math rock trio from Dublin. Formed by the desire to play live shows, they quickly gained the attention of local music blogs and promoters from their energetic and intense live performances. Influenced by musical ideas of early Foals and Biffy Clyro, their songs don’t follow the traditional verse/chorus/verse structure, instead go on a tangent of experimentation that combines upbeat dance rhythms, dark dissonant riffs and chords, screaming vocals and thumping basslines. They blend many genres and musical ideas into songs, from heavy distorted riffs, to math-pop jams, to slow instrumental experimental bridges, to long dramatic build ups. Constant changes in dynamics and ideas within songs lead to an intense, dramatic and exciting live performance. They have played alongside artists such as Alex Smyth, Le Boom, Spudgun, Vernon Jane and have taken part in Whelan's Summer Ones to Watch Festival 2016 and Arcadian Field Festival 2017. The band's first official single "Flongo", was released in Summer 2017, which gained significant media attention. JOE.ie "Flongo" song of the day: https://www.joe.ie/music/tribal-dance "It's dizzying and all over the shop in the very best of ways, those snares take a right pounding and the bass and wobbling guitar effects pack an almighty punch, add to that some Beastie Boys-esque rhyme spitting and we have a serious first outing from the trio on our hands." Remy Music and Film Blog. "When an email arrived in from Tribal Dance the first thought that sprung to mind was “oh dear not some Peruvian pan pipe music”. However the bands name doesn’t do justice to the Dublin three piece’s tightly coiled math rock that they hurtle through. Flongo combines rapid rhythmic drumming that you associate with Adebisi Shank with the precise fret work of Foals and some urgent post punk yelping. It’s a sweaty, thrilling tune and signals Tribal Dance as ones to keep an eye on." Goldenplec. "If Royal Blood and Foals had a baby with a little extra punk, it would be Tribal Dance. The three piece math rock band combine high energy performances with incredible bass lines and catchy guitar hooks." - Upcoming Irish Bands
