Matt Cardle Biography

Matt Cardle is truly one of the UK’s best male vocal talents of the last decade becoming a multi-platinum selling recording artist and an award- winning West End actor. Matt’s classic hits Amazing, When We Collide, Loving You, Starlight and Run For Your Life have all helped clocked up over 21 million streams, alongside in excess of 2.2 million record sales.

Matt’s debut solo single, When We Collide, sold over one million copies and has been named as one of the biggest-selling singles of the past decade. The song spent three weeks at #1 and was nominated for Best British Single at the 2011 BRIT Awards. Matt has since released four studio albums; Letters (2011), The Fire (2012), Porcelain (2013) and Time To Be Alive (2018). His most recent EP Purple Crayon was released last year.

In addition to his acclaimed output as a solo artist, Matt teamed up with Spice Girl Melanie C in 2013 for the infectious Top 10 duet Loving You as well as performing to over two billion at Miss World in Bali. Matt has spent many summers performing at festivals as guest vocalist with The Trevor Horn Band and was honoured to be asked to record a new orchestral version of The Power Of Love for Trevor's ‘Reimagines The Eighties' album in 2019.

Southampton-born Matt has carved out a successful acting CV in London’s West End. He joined the cast of Memphis (Shaftesbury Theatre) alongside Beverley Knight in 2015. Matt received the Best West End Debut Award for his show-stopping portrayal of Huey Calhoun. Matt returned to the stage in 2018, appearing as Wally Strand in Baz Luhrmann's Strictly Ballroom (Piccadilly Theatre) and in 2019 as Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar (Barbican Theatre).

Matt’s music journey began in his early teens, picking up his first guitar and soon writing a collection of songs. In 2005 he joined acoustic rock band Darwyn releasing the album When You Wake. In 2009 Matt became the lead singer and guitarist of the still-active rock band Seven Summers releasing a self-titled debut album.

Matt rose to fame eleven years ago as the winner of The X Factor’s highest rating series ever in 2010. An audience of over 19.1 million watched Matt’s duet with international superstar Rihanna. The mesmerising performance has been viewed over 41 million times on YouTube. Matt’s breath-taking four-octave vocal range saw him historically win the public vote continuously after week one.

Matt is currently writing and recording his fifth studio album.
