Black Light Ascension Biography

Black Light ascension started operations as a solo project of Andrew Trail in 2009. The first album, Ashes, recorded entirely on a 16 track digital recorder using basic hardware, quickly garnered attention of Hauruck via Tesco and was very well received. The line up at this stage was featuring Ben McLees (This Is Radio Silence) and Reza Udhin (Inertia, Killing Joke)
After numerous shows and prestigious supports, the second album Post Future Recordings was released, featuring stunning artwork form the artist Esmeralda Munoz-Torrero. This was a much more electronic affair, with themes of Cold War paranoia and British maladjustment. By this stage Hunter Barr had taken over keyboard duties, and lent his talents to mastering the finished album. At this point Black Light Ascension played their first WGT and were surprised by the level of interest and support. Shortly after this the most recent album wa written in much greater partnership with Hunter Barr. Now stripped down to a simple 2 piece of Andrew Trail vocals, bass/later to switch to guitar and Hunter Barr performing a much more major role in sculpting th elive and recorded sound. The result, The Austerity Exhibition is both an exploration and indictment of Neo Liberal Britain with an aggressively militant stance whilst using first person narrative to characterise the new dark heart of British free market colonialism and barely masked institutional Social Darwinism
Black Light Ascension has begun to tour again in light of this resurrection of both external interest and necessary catharsis.
The latest Album Flesh Ghosts is a much more personal affair, maintaining the dystopian and post apocalyptic feel but distilling it down to person struggle and catharsis. This is still available via hauruck and tesco.org
