Jenni Alpert Biography

With her honest rich songwriting and soothing musical melodies, songstress Jenni Alpert’s haunting, powerful, and sultry voice has gained the respect of fans and music tastemakers worldwide (AOL music). Her emotionally driven songs blend modern day pop influences with favorites Ella Fitzgerald, Julie London, Patsy Cline, Bonnie Riatt, Carole King, Rickie Lee Jones, and Edie Brickell. Equally inspired by the vocal delivery and songs from male soul singers Bill Withers, Sam Cooke, Wilson Pickett, and Soloman Burke, Jenni Alpert weaves a unique web of eclectic Soul-Americana Pop. Singer, songwriter, guitarist, and pianist Jenni Alpert was born in Los Angeles and adopted at the age of four. She started to sing and play piano while staying in various foster homes, and later learned to play the guitar as well, and began writing songs early. As familiar with jazz and Americana as she is pop, Alpert graduated from UCLA’s Ethnomusicology Department after completing a four-year jazz program headed by Kenny Burrell. No stranger to the recording studio, Alpert released 5 albums: Pieces (produced by Jimmy Paxson and Stevie Blacke), 27 Minutes in Bologna (produced by Nicola Fantozzi), No Second Guesses (produced by Julian Coryell), Underneath the Surface (produced by Brad Smith, Blind Melon), and Take It All (produced by Mikal Blue). In 2013, Italian label Cappuccino Records decided to release Shining Light, Alpert’s first vinyl, a collection of solo live performances recorded in Italy. Not long after, on a cross country tour of the US, Alpert stopped in Nashville to record a selection of songs live in one take with guitarist Guthrie Trapp (recorded and mixed by Rob Matson) which garnered the attention of SCurve Records who signed her and released Until Then, her most recent body of work. Alpert has independently performed in over 14 countries and her music has been featured on major Network Television shows including Castle (ABC), CSI Miami (CBS) The Real World, Teen Mom, 16 and Pregnant (MTV). She has supported veteran touring artists such as Loudon Wainwright III, Luka Bloom, and Kaki King both in the US and in Europe. Upon releasing a few independent albums on itunes, Alpert was selected to record her song Untied by The Sun Studio Sessions for PBS at Sun Studios in Memphis, TN, recording home of Elvis, Johnny Cash, Howlin’ Wolf, and B. B. King. In Europe, she has covered quite some ground. Fans in Europe may remember her performance in Cambridge supporting Hank Marvin, her full band performance at Morning Glory in Paris, her first vinyl record release on Italian label Cappuccino Records recorded live in Bologna Italy, or perhaps from watching her on tour in the Netherlands, supporting UK artist Jon Allen, Irish songwriter Luka Bloom, and Dutch songwriters Giovanca, and Elske de Wall performing in venues Paradiso, Paard van Troje, and Doornroosje, Tiviloi, Paard Van Troje, Nieuwe Nor and on radio 2 and radio 6 Dolf Jansen. Aussies may recall hearing her music on ABC radio while on the In Search of the Perfect Flat White Tour …. Jenni Alpert plays Gibson guitars and uses D'addario, LR Baggs, Nord Keyboards, Luna, and Bose products. It is the deep connection to the roots of historical recordings of memorial artists and timeless songs in Soul, Country, Amerciana, Jazz and Blues genres made at Motown, Stax, Muscle Shoals, Sun Studios, and Capitol Records that keeps Alpert writing, recording, and performing original music. Shy of five years ago she found and reunited with her birth father Don who was homeless, running from the law, an addict, but a musician just like her. After an extraordinary transformation through an amazing partnership the two now perform together sharing their story and song for others experiencing homelessness and adversity to inspire unique solution solving and creative transitions. www.jennialpert.com www.jennialpert.com
