About this concert
August 2019 see's the 6th birthday of our friends at Abbazappa record shop, So Music Capital have teamed up them good folks to throw a wee end of summer birthday bash at the Glassworks in Derry. Bands & Beers, a night not to be missed 🎸🍻 THE BONNEVILLES The Bonnevilles are shaking Northern Ireland in a way it hasn't felt since Van Morrison & Them obliterated Club Rado in 1964 and Stiff Little Fingers blew apart The Trident in 1977! The Bonnevilles don't so much play punk blues as use it as a spring board to create a completely new genre. The Lurgan duo take Mississippi Hill Blues and Punk Rock and mix into their own unique dark Northern Irish Punk Blues stew. The Bonnevilles are a no-frills guitar-and-drums two-piece from Northern Ireland who play hard-hitting roots music they call 'garage punk blues.' Formed in Lurgan and Banbridge in 2009, the Bonnevilles feature guitarist and singer Andrew McGibbon, Jr. and drummer Chris McMullan. McGibbon was a blues fan whose take on the genre was turned upside down by R.L. Burnside's raucous collaboration with the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Ass Pocket of Whiskey. After checking out like-minded acts like the Immortal Lee County Killers and the Soledad Brothers, McGibbon decided to start doing some blues wailing of his own. Teaming up with McMullan, the group began playing out and in 2010 released their debut album, Good Suits and Fightin' Boots. As the band toured in support, both McGibbon and McMullan struggled with the death of a parent, which informed the duo's second LP, 2012's Folk Art and the Death of Electric Jesus. As the Bonnevilles continued to tour the U.K. and Europe, they shared stages with the likes of Bob Log III, the Black Diamond Heavies, T-Model Ford, and Kid Congo Powers. In 2014, the band documented its powerful live show with the album Tape Saturation Overdrive: Live in Belfast. In 2015, the Bonnevilles visited one of the cradles of American blues when they were invited to play Clarksdale, Mississippi's Deep Blues Festival. That same year, the group struck a deal with Alive Naturalsound Records, an American independent label closely associated with raw blues-rock. March 2016 saw the release of the Bonnevilles' third studio album (and first for Alive), Arrow Pierce My Heart. The band kept up a busy touring schedule in the U.K. and Europe, and in 2017 Alive issued a collection of early recordings, Listen for Tone, as a limited vinyl-only Record Store Day release. Norway's Blues for the Red Sun Records gave Folk Art and the Death of Electric Jesus a band-approved reissue on LP in 2017, while the Bonnevilles went back to the studio to cut their fourth studio effort. Dirty Photographs, which added a touch more detail to the band's rough-hewn sound, was released by Alive Naturalsound in March 2018. ~ Mark Deming Mosmo Strange Mosmo Strange is a 4 piece band from Northern Ireland. What began as a songwriting project for founding members Gavin Scott and Nolan Donnelly, came to life with the addition of Eamonn Doherty (bass) and Conor Bradley (drums) in summer 2015. The first hurdle came in the form of university commitments as Conor was abroad during term-time - a host of talented fill-in drummers being the solution! Mike Hodkinson (Part Time Pilots) and Mark Miller (Ant0 & The Echoes) stepped up to the plate and were a blast to tour with. One fateful day in early 2017 we discovered Ash Hamilton who has been our rhythm powerhouse and meme-lord ever since! Wary of genres and labels, Mosmo aim to make you dance with their own brand of indifferent rock. Fierce Pit Bosses are a 3 piece band based in Donegal playing their own brand of emo-tinged punk rock. With “heart on their sleeve” lyrics and catchy upbeat tunes they hope to forge their own way on the Irish alternative rock scene. Aaron and Eoin are longtime friends and had previously been in the band Cuban Science. Kieran was another friend of theirs and being a well known drummer and having mutual musical interest they asked him to join after deciding to start a band. Singer/guitarist Eoin had been performing solo under the name Affirmative Mule playing acoustic, folk-punk style songs. Some of these songs have been reworked as Fierce Pit Bosses tunes, along with brand new songs all taking advantage of the bigger sound afforded by a full band. They having been gaining steam with their relentless live performances with an appearance at Swell Festival 2018 among them. They released their first single “Sharks in the Bathtub” in October 2018 and their first EP of the same name was released on January 19th 2019. They are looking forward to continue their consistent gigging and hopefully include more Irish festivals in 2019. Music Genres: Blues, Punk, Rock

The Bonnevilles Biography

The Bonnevilles are shaking Northern Ireland in a way it hasn't felt since Van Morrison & Them obliterated Club Rado in 1964 and Stiff Little Fingers blew apart The Trident in 1977! The Bonnevilles don't so much play punk blues as use it as a spring board to create a completely new genre. The band has this to say about their latest album.

Is this our sexiest album so far? We think so for sure.

When we started this band one of our guiding notions was to get people dancing. Here in Northern Ireland it seemed to us at gigs there was a distinct lack of boogieing. I remember going to see the Von Bondies, before the Bonnevilles was a thing, in Belfast and they tore the place up but the entire room was pinned to the walls tapping feet but not shaking booty. Jason, told the room off, and he was right to do so then played even harder in reaction, that impressed the shit out of me. Northern Ireland was still traumatised from its recent history, people were still trying to figure out how to be normal, I remember it very clearly and we didn’t know how to dance to a great band. Sometimes being a band thats rooted in the blues it’s too easy to get weighed down by its sheer mass and heavy content.

Over the years we’ve written about death and love, zombies and strippers. Not Zombie strippers though, not yet anyway. This record we’ve gone straight for passion, sex and love along with a little political righteous indignation. For us love and politics are not mutually exclusive.

We give you Dirty Photographs, the album, you can provide your own filth.
