‘The jungle is coming up to the door,The birds that are calling are hard to ignore’‘Inferno’ is acclaimed Australian singer-songwriter Robert Forster’s first solo album in 4 years - his second album over the last eleven years. Forster only makes records when he feels he has the songs – on Inferno, he has 9 he totally believes in.They range from the exhilarating top ten pop of Inferno (Brisbane In Summer), the beach shack groove of Life Has Turned a Page, via Remain’s 1977 New York strut, to finish in a way that this concise, brilliant, drama and wit filled album only can - on the big build epic One Bird In The Sky.Inferno was made in Berlin in 2018, during the hottest German summer in decades. Noted producer/engineer Victor Van Vugt (Beth Orton ‘Trailor Park’, P J Harvey ‘Stories of the City, Stories from the Sea’), recorded the album; the first time he and Forster had worked together since Van Vugt engineered Forster’s debut solo album classic ‘Danger In The Past’ in Berlin in 1990.Inferno in its making is a perfect mix of the familiar and the new. Also working with Forster again, are Brisbane based multi-instrumentalists Scott Bromiley and Karin Bãumler from ‘Songs To Play’ (2015). While, new recruits are drummer Earl Havin (Tindersticks, Mary J. Blige) and keyboardist Michael Muhlhaus (Blumfeld, Kante). Four musicians from the corners of the world, who, with Van Vugt’s bold and beautiful production, sound like a band of the ages. In front of them, Forster delivers the best vocal performances of his careerOver the last four years Forster has been busy. He curated the acclaimed, Domino Records released, ‘Anthology Volume 1 1978-1984’ on his old band The Go-Betweens. His memoir ‘Grant & I’ was Mojo and Uncut’s Book Of The Year. He continues to publish music journalism, play concerts, and he never stops writing beautiful songs. He looks forward to touring Inferno; starting with a full band tour of Europe in April/May 2019, followed by his Australian tour in July.

Robert Forster Biography
Robert Forster is an Australian singer-songwriter, best known for his work with songwriting partner Grant McLennan with whom he co-founded The Go-Betweens.
Born 29 June 1957, Robert grew up in Brisbane, Australia.
In addition to his work with the Go-Betweens, he has released five solo albums: Danger in the Past, recorded in Berlin in 1990; Calling from a Country Phone, recorded at Sunshine Studios, Brisbane, in 1993 with members of local pop group Custard; I Had a New York Girlfriend, a collection of cover versions recorded in Melbourne in 1994; Warm Nights, recorded in London in 1996 and produced by Edwyn Collins; and The Evangelist, recorded (all but one track - "A Place to Hide Away") at Good Luck Studios, London, September - November 2007.
Critically acclaimed internationally as a songwriter, he reveals a strong literary influence in his work. He became, through his work with McLennan and the The Go-Betweens, one of a group of Brisbane musicians who established a particular Brisbane sound characterised by laid-back, jangly arrangements.
In 2005, Forster began writing for the Australian magazine, The Monthly. He had virtually no print experience, with only a column on hair care for a fanzine in the 1980s to his credit. On 25 October 2006, it was announced that Forster was the winner of the Pascall Prize for Critical Writing for his columns.
On 6 May 2006, Grant McLennan died in his sleep at his home in Brisbane. Forster picked three songs co-written by Grant McLennan, including "Demon Days", which is the last song the pair wrote together, and recorded them alongside some of his own material to produce his first album in 11 years. The Evangelist was released on April 26, 2008 through Yep Roc Records.[5]
Forster announced his return to live performance with four nights at the Queensland Music Festival in July 2007.
