Pilgrims

Written by: Neil Miller, Jr. Few bands can say they came to existence in a movie theater during the first Transformers film, but Pilgrims are hardly your everyday, run of the mill rock band. For six years, the band has performed relentlessly, winning over new fans with each performance and converting skeptics who might believe that “rock is dead.” Try as you may to pigeonhole Pilgrims into one genre, but these guys run the gamut between indie rock in the same vein as Two Door Cinema Club, the same emotional alt-rock territory that Jimmy Eat World occupies, and power-pop hooks that would make Fall Out Boy start taking notes. But the band’s secret weapon is their thunderous drumming that echoes sentiments of both John Bonham and Travis Barker courtesy of the band’s secret weapon, Jon Paul Gray. If the saying is true that a band is only as good as its drummer, then Pilgrims are surely destined for great things. Pilgrims descended upon SCP Records’ studio in Danville, IL for five days to flesh out the tracks that make up the band’s Feel More E.P. Immediately following these sessions, the label decided to sign this diamond in the rough of today’s rock music scene. Harnessing the power of their memorable and infectious hooks (check out “House of Cards” for evidence), Pilgrims have solidified another chapter in their neverending story. If you want the authentic, no frills, in-your-face Pilgrims experience, go see the band live. It’s no wonder that it’s their immersive live show that’s winning over new followers left and right. For a band to be able to conquer both the studio and the stage as flawlessly as Pilgrims do is no easy feat. But these Pilgrims are exploring sonic territory undiscovered by other artists within their respective genres.
