THE BEGINNING

Half-way through the year 2002, in the city of Seville (Spain), Damiana Dubatti and Manu Villalba started composing songs on a blue iMac. Coming from both sides of the Atlantic, Damiana played bass in Bristol –a band from Buenos Aires which released their first album through the independent record company Indice Virgen. Manu Villalba was then the singer and keyboard player in Nadia (Indoor Records, Sevilla).
In 2003 Montevideo recorded their first demo Their debut was at Sala Podesta in Buenos Aires in September 2003. In December they got a fairly good review from David Moran in Rockdelux magazine (demos section); and soon afterwards Montevideo’s CD was selected by the Mondosonoro magazine and ranked 7th among the best 2003 demos in Southern Spain.
Montevideo’s debut in Spain was at Fun Club (Seville) in February 2004. They also played as a support band for groups such as Ellos and Deneuve in Cordoba. In June, they were invited to take part in the Divos and Divas Festival in Buenos Aires. In October Montevideo released a new demo-single called “El Avion” (The Plane) at Sala Q (Seville), where they supported the band Maga. The Plane is considered by the media and press to be the one of the best singles in 2005Finally, in November they toured Andalusia for the so-called Demo Concerts organised by Mondosonoro. The National Pop Contest in January 2005 (Navarra) had Montevideo among the finalists. They played with well-known Spanish groups such as Coque Malla and Quique Gonzalez. Montevideo was later invited for an interview by Jesús Ordovás at RNE Radio 3 (Spanish National Radio Station) on his daily program, Diario Pop.
Montevideo’s next demo, “Creo que es martes” (‘I think it’s Tuesday’) was played on RNE Radio 3 in March for the program Disco Grande by Julio Ruíz.
They got into the semifinals for the contest Proyecto Demo (International Festival of Benicassim) in 2005.
