Venezuela-born and New York City-raised singer-dancer Barbara Martinez is a flamenco artist with serious chops. "The Philadelphia Inquirer" called her voice “achingly beautiful” and "The New York Times" said she makes “something fresh of the Latino style.” Martinez has danced with the Metropolitan Opera in shows like Carmen and La Traviata, and recently appeared in the documentary "Sobre Las Olas — A Story of Flamenco in the U.S." Now, this passionate entertainer is coming to the stage at City Vineyard in New York City.

Absolutely stunning performance capturing the roots of flamenco with global sound influences. Barbara’s soulful voice is felt with ease and pleasure. With the assistance of Jaiaboards the resonating sound of the zapateado (sound made with the feet) created such a bold impact.

Barbara Martinez Biography

Bárbara Martínez grew up performing in New York City. She hails from a musical family that includes movie icon Libertad Lamarque. For over 20 years, she has worked as a dancer and singer with several professional flamenco dance companies and world music ensembles, as well as the Metropolitan Opera. Barbara’s solo career began with a sold-out concert at Carnegie Hall in 2010 and she can be seen performing in “TrashBata”, a one-woman dance theater performance that melds flamenco and environmental activism, and co-leading ALBA Musik, a musical project that made it to the first round for a US GRAMMY nomination featuring her compositions with Albert Alabedra.
