Rachael Leahcar Biography

Singer/songwriter Rachael Leahcar’s dynamic vocals and powerful performances have stunned audiences across the globe.

Rachael has succeeded in many competitions over the years. The first of which was Fellini’s Search for a Star, winning 3rd place and a day in a recording studio at the age of 12. Achieving 1st place in Dino Prizzi’s International Festival of Song preceded a trip to sing on RAI Uno television in Rome at the age of 15.

In 2010, Rachael graduated from the Special Interest Music Program at Brighton Secondary School with 20/20 in Solo Performance and Performance Special Study. Inspired by artists such as Adele, Josh Pyke, Eva Cassidy, Queen, The Beatles, Judy Garland and many more, she has grown up with music all around her and wants to inspire others the way these artists have inspired her.

After her appearance on the first season of Australia’s The Voice where she captivated audiences with her stellar performances, she has continued to excel in music; securing a record deal with Universal Music, singing with Andrea Bocelli’s orchestra in Italy, releasing three top 10 albums and touring a cabaret show about her life, the Colours of My Life. Able to sing in English, French, Italian and Spanish, she also enjoys playing the piano, flute and guitar. Losing 90% of her sight has never stopped her from achieving her vision.

Rachael has always been passionate about philanthropy and helping those in need. She has been an ambassador for the Royal Society for the Blind (RSB) since 2011 and one of Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight ambassadors in 2012/2013. Rachael is proud to be a part of these organisations helping people who are blind or vision impaired, amongst copious amounts of other charity work.

"I can never sit still!" Rachael says. "Music consumes my entire existence and I wouldn't have it any other way. There's never enough opportunities to seek out and songs to sing. Something about singing on stage and connecting with an audience brings me so much happiness. Music is the love of my life."

Rachael's debut album, Shooting Star (2012), shot to no. 5 on the ARIA charts after its release following The Voice where 4.1 million people were watching her audition alone, breaking Australian TV records. Romantique (2013) held true to her inner-self, containing three original songs. This album debuted at no. 10. Here Comes the Sun (2014), a Beatles cover album, debuted at no. 1 on the Classical/Crossover ARIA chart.

"When I look back on everything, it seems like I’ve done a lot already. I’ve even toured a cabaret show about my life." Rachael recalls. "But it's never enough. I still have so much more to give. The next album always has to be better than the last, and this one is no exception."

Rachael’s latest album, Shadows debuted at #5 on the Australian Album ARIA Chart. Shadows marks Rachael’s transformation from a shy teen to a strong young woman. With her first national tour of Australia scheduled for November, Rachael will allow audiences a glimpse behind the curtain - an intimate look into the world of a true artist. Bolder than ever, Rachael is ready to expose not only her vulnerabilities, her fears and regrets but also to share her message of resilience and determination to face the world head on. With her signature, hauntingly-beautiful vocals, Rachael will reveal more of her story previously hidden in the shadows.
