About this concert
4 of the finest high energy New Wave Ska bands from all 4 corners of the UK are coming to Wigan for a night of high octane riotous live Ska/Punk. Popes of Chillitown are a Ska/Dub/Punk band from London, who have been rampaging through the UK scene for the last few years like an unstoppable grooving, skanking juggernaut. A straight-up ska-punk band they are not, expertly mashing the energy of upbeat ska, punk, 2-tone and drum & bass with the groove of reggae and dub, adding in the lyrical flow of hip hop and finishing it all off with a generous helping of catchy melodies and hooks. The Hostiles are a ska-punk band from Ayr, Scotland, described by Punktastic.com as ‘upbeat, effervescent, bouncy and danceable’. Reflecting the transatlantic origins of the band members themselves, their sound introduces sunny US ska-punk to slamming Scottish ska-core, dragging the best of both of these musical worlds kicking and screaming onto the stage. The Hostiles’ live show is detonated by the meeting of these highly-combustible elements, underpinned by the two-pronged brass backbone of double trombone, and the band’s relentless drive to perform. Since releasing their debut album in 2009, The Hostiles have played hundreds of gigs and captured cult followings in Scotland, England and far beyond. The Platitudes are approximately 8 people who love to cobble together ska, punk and other junk whilst getting distracted by video game theme tunes and shoddy covers. RedeyedJedi are a Ska band from across Lancashire and merseyside playing their own brand of big brassy catchy ska tunes. Popes of Chillitown Biography

Popes of Chillitown play ska/dub/punk with a progressive edge. Impossible to tie down and with enough energy to power a small city, their songs take you on journeys through punk, two-tone, rock, hip-hop, reggae, drum & bass, dub, metal and more.

Renowned for their energetic live shows, they have amassed a loyal following over the years. Since 2011, Popes have released 3 well-received albums, 2 EPs, toured the UK with US legends Fishbone, Voodoo Glow Skulls & The Slackers as well as doing extensive headline touring of their own across the UK & Europe.

Their latest album ‘Work Hard, Play Hard, See You In The Graveyard’ was released in May 2018.

“Everything here is top draw quality. There’s not a song on the record that I’d describe as less than a goddamn riot ... this is a desert island album. If someone told me this was the only thing I could listen to for the rest of my life then I’d probably die a happy man” - Colin’s Punk Rock World

“From the start, energy bursts from the speakers as colourful melodies from the horns dance and twist above the guitar, bassline and drums [but] this isn’t simply another bouncy ska record.” - Songwriting magazine

“They waste no time in redeeming their rightful place as one of the most diverse and complex beings in the punk genre ... Their ability to completely surprise you at every turn and provide tune after tune is incredible and massively admirable.” - The Cozy Chronicles

“Some of these tracks are the best that Popes have ever written.” - RockFreaks.net
