Colin Cannon Biography

Colin Cannon is a renowned guitarist and composer of international recognition. Widely embraced by fans of modern jazz, the jam band scene and the "new music" world, Cannon's music has been described as seamlessly blending genres from rock to the avant-garde, and blurring the lines between modern jazz and modern classical music. In addition to touring, Cannon is based in New York City where he is a regular performer in some of the world's most prestigious jazz venues including the Blue Note Jazz Club and the 55 Bar. He has opened for legends including Ron Carter, Larry Carlton, and Russel Malone to name a few. Cannon's critically acclaimed albums "In Summary" and "Glenville" are available worldwide and feature the 'Colin Cannon Group' with Manami Morita (piano), Zak Croxal (bass), Thomas Hartman (drums), Devin Collins (drums) and Colin Cannon (guitar). These musicians have performed and/or recorded with internationally acclaimed artists such as Esperanza Spalding and Denis Chambers. ___________ Cannon's most recent album "Intermission (Farewell)" is also his most ambitious. With orchestral compositions and arrangements incorporating more than 20 musicians and vocalists, an array of soundscapes and various audio samples from the 1950s, the album is significantly different than Cannon’s previous two, expanding upon the audaciousness and reach that marked the artist’s previous work. Critics have written: "The music on Intermission (Farewell) deserves not to be categorized...The performances here are flawless...intoxicating combination of melody and surprising developments."-All About Jazz "Cannon is on to something here forward leaning tastes can easily embrace...Hard to describe, easy to enjoy---that's the genre this falls into."-Midwest Record "Radio broadcasts. Lectures. Telephone conversations. Sometimes, the voices are overwhelmed by the music, but at other times, they come through clearly. It’s an interesting element."-Woodrow Wilkins "sweeping, grand, majestic, and beautiful." -Sea Of Tranquility "One of most charismatic releases in recent years"-All About Jazz ___________ Colin Cannon grew up in Rochester, N.Y. where he first began teaching himself the guitar at age nine. At thirteen, he began his formal studies with Steve Greene, a famous music instructor in upstate New York. At age 15, Cannon began studying at the world-renowned Eastman School of Music where he was named a “Fred V. Alati Jazz Scholar". At Eastman, he studied jazz and classical guitar with Bob Sneider. By the age of 16, Cannon was making a name for himself locally. While still in High School, he opened as a soloist for such artists as Grammy-nominees Karrin Allyson and Brian Auger. At age 18, Cannon was selected by the Berklee College of Music's World Scholarship Tour. While at Berklee, he studied with Tim Miller and the legendary Mick Goodrick (teacher of Pat Metheny, John Scofield and others). After graduating from Berklee, Colin relocated to New York City where he began performing in some of the city's most renowned venues. He released his critically acclaimed albums "In Summary" in 2009, "Glenville" in 2012, and his most ambitious work yet "Intermission (Farewell)" in 2016. In addition to his performing, recording and composing career, Cannon is a highly sought after private music instructor in the New York City area. Colin Cannon is currently based on the east coast where he continues to perform, record and compose regularly. Listen to music here-> http://www.facebook.com/colincannonmusic/app_178091127385
