Lithium Biography

Going to a Lithium show is the closest you can get to actually seeing Nirvana live! They cover everything from the hits to the B-sides, frequently performing entire albums or using actual Nirvana set lists. Lithium includes Nirvana-related music in their shows, such as the Meat Puppets, Foo Fighters and Hole. They have been known to be their own opening band, a memorable example being the performance of Green Day's full Dookie album as an opening set. The band's high-energy shows include skratch visuals (live video DJing) for a full audio-visual sensory overload. Video artist and MC mighty FlipSide Esq mixes short films for each song, using everything from Nirvana footage to movie clips, cartoons and original material. His video stylings provide the perfect visual interest to accompany Lithium's explosive sound. The musicians of Lithium dedicate themselves to an authentic sound and attitude, paying homage to Nirvana's punk rock roots. Each band member has been playing rock music since childhood and possesses extreme talent. While there can never truly be another Kurt Cobain, Pete "Meaty" Keenan comes very close. He replicates Cobain's trademark gravelly screams, but also reflects the sensitive side of Nirvana with tuneful singing. "He sounds exactly like Kurt Cobain" is a comment you will often hear from awestruck audience members. Pete is a respected and established guitarist in his own right who is comfortable playing any style. His innovative leads take you on a atmospheric journey, while his rhythmic riffing provides a solid musical foundation. With Lithium, he focuses his energies on honing in Kurt's signature guitar sound and dynamics. He doesn't rest until he's found the perfect guitar tone for each part. Laura Kalnajs is a life-long musician, singer and multi-instrumentalist. Her relentless bass grooves supply Lithium with a Krist Novoselic-worthy backbone. She masterfully duplicates his booming sound, countermelodies and raw power. Laura performs spot-on backing vocals, and she takes the screaming lead when the band plays Hole covers. Her animated stage presence keeps the audience singing and moving along. Chris "Ch.tei" (pronounced Chee-tee) Keenan tears up the drum parts with Grohl-like intensity. He comes from a strong punk and heavy metal background, yet his playing is also highly musical and tasteful. He is proficient at pounding out Dave Grohl's ferocious drum fills, and exactly matches the quiet-to loud dynamics of Nirvana's music. Always a Nirvana fan, Ch.tei came up with the idea of forming a tribute band in 2013. He wanted to form a band that played great, popular music that people would want to hear, but on his own terms. Covering Nirvana turned out to be the perfect solution. Ch.tei recruited his brother Pete and bandmate Laura for the project, the three of them having played original music together for many years. A few months after forming the group, they performed all of Nevermind at the first Lithium show. This paved the way for the concept of performing albums in their entirety. Mighty flipside approached the band in Fall of 2015 with the idea of adding live video turntables and boosting the visual performance aspect. He played his first gig with the band shortly thereafter, and has been a valued member of the Lithium team ever since. Lithium is a phenomenon of audio-visual entertainment! Their dedication, musicianship, energy and innovation provides audiences with an unforgettable musical experience.
