Kiran Ahluwalia

Kiran Ahluwalia is a modern singer of songs originating from India and Pakistan - Sufi songs, Punjabi folk, her own Urban Desi originals and the occasional Bollywood classic. Singing in Hindi, and Punjabi, her music embodies her roots while embracing influences from West African Blues to contemporary Jazz and Rock. With the freedom to choose between cultural worlds she creates a unique style that transports listeners to the transcendent - exploring struggles and joys both universal and intimate. Her reworking of the classic Qawwali - Mustt Mustt has garnered more than 2.5 million views online. Her latest album includes celebrated feminist poet Kishwar Naheed’s poem - We Sinful Women (Hum Gunahgaar Auratein) composed and sung by Kiran. A two time Juno Award winner (Canada’s Grammys) Kiran is accompanied by renowned electric guitarist Rez Abbasi, and is backed by a superlative band on bass, drums, organ and tabla.
