Quasar Wut-Wut Biography

Formed in metro-Detroit in 1990, Quasar Wut-Wut spent their high school years as a basement experiment cutting their teeth with numerous cassette releases (mostly very limited editions for parents and girlfriends). A listen to these early recordings shows them studiously ripping off The Dead Milkmen, Smiths, The Cure, and Jello Biafra - all very awkward, but earnest nonetheless. In college things got a bit headier with a sound that was more Crawdaddy! Magazine than Thrasher Magazine. The stage show began to take on a carnival-like atmosphere and the music followed suit, shifting between a frenetic rock expressionism and surreal folk. Their costume-comedy/renaissance fair/slapstick video for 1997's "Wunderbra" is proof of this progression. A move to Chicago produced the full-length Taro Sound (2004), an original soundtrack to Buster Keaton's silent comedy The General (commissioned by Northwestern University's Block Museum of Art), and the completion of their very own Coupon Studios. With a basement home to experiment and hone their visions Quasar Wut-Wut have come full circle with their new full-length, Digesting Mirror. Slated for a Summer 2014 release date, it's a piece of genre-schizoid art pop that is sonically dry to the bone yet dripping wet with musings about immutable goddesses, octogenarian nymphos, and the mystic properties of desire. It's still all very awkward, but earnest nonetheless. Currently in the final stretch (really!) of finishing a new album (seriously!) Watch for a big album release show coming up.
