Sarah Pierce Fan Page Biography

Sarah Pierce, the daughter of a cowboy raised in a family of cattlemen, was born in Rockford, Illinois and raised in rural Texas and Colorado. Sarah's dream of becoming a singer began to take shape at age 12. Her stepfather, a small town doctor by day, played bass in the local country band on the weekends. Sarah had her first opportunity to perform in front of a live audience when her stepfather invited her to sing at one of his shows. This first "gig" was when Sarah realized that the stage was where she belonged - "The stage is like a big comfortable couch; I am so at home there."

Sarah continued to play in her dad's band regularly up until she started prep school. While there, Sarah decided that it was time to make a practical choice about which direction to take her life. Her decision was to earn what ultimately became an post graduate degree in medical science. Even while school was her priority, she always made time to pursue voice lessons. After years of intense study, graduation day allowed Sarah to finally get back to that part of her life she missed and was driven by. "I was missing something crucial to my existence —my music."

Sarah moved to Denver, Colorado as a practicing Physician's Assistant. While there, Sarah was referred to Merel Bregante, a drummer, producer and studio manager based in Phoenix, Arizona. After tracking down Merel and hearing about the serious country music scene in Phoenix, she decided to move to the desert.

Merel became a mentor of sorts helping her to step back into the industry in a more serious and professional way. Sarah then went into the studio for the first time, recording songs that had been sent to her from publishers in Nashville. These sessions became her first album, West Texas Wind, released on Little Bear Records. In the fall of that year, Sarah began finding the players that would become her band. By the following spring, "Sarah Pierce and the Healers" had been born. While performing at a local club, Sarah was seen by John McEuen (The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band). That evening he asked if she'd be willing to go on the road as his opening act. Thirteen weeks and thousands of miles later, Sarah had performed before tens of thousands of people, receiving standing ovations wherever she sang. While on a trip to Austin, Texas, Sarah Pierce discovered a feeling of true belonging and decided to make Austin home.

Since moving, Sarah has toured hundreds of thousands of miles - both domestic and foreign - receiving rave reviews at fairs, festivals, conventions, and opening dates from South Dakota and Northern British Columbia to San Antonio and Europe. Her willingness to self-promote her music has included a driving tour of 250 NPR stations across the country, doing interviews and live on-air performances. In addition, she has been seen in performance on MTV and was heard as the singing voice of Calamity Jane on the Emmy-nominated Time-Life television mini- series, The Wild West. Now it’s late winter - 2013. With the release of her eighth critically acclaimed album, Bring It On, and the first single, Butterfly Tattoo, going to #5 in the nation on Independent Country Charts, Sarah has once again shown that she is an absolutely viable artist both commercially and more importantly creatively.

It has been a long, wondrous, and sometimes hard road for a girl raised on cattle ranches in Texas, Florida, and Colorado. Thankfully, since moving back to Texas, this cowboy's daughter has discovered that her musical soul is ultimately tied to the music with which she had been raised. Her childhood dream, alive and doing very well!
