DOORS: 6:30pm  |  SHOW:7:30pm To see a detailed seat map, please choose "Tickets" in the upper righthand corner, select your ticket choices & click "view on map."  ABOUT THE ARTIST Genre:  Jazz Saxophonist, clarinetist, composer and educator, Victor Goines is a member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and the Wynton Marsalis Septet since 1993, touring throughout the world and recording over seventy releases including Marsalis' Pulitzer Prize winning recording Blood on the Fields (Columbia Records, 1997) and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis' The Music of John Lewis featuring Jon Battiste (2017) and The Abyssinian Mass (2016) from Blue Engine Records,  Congo Square (JALC, 2007) and the soundtracks for Ken Burns' acclaimed documentaries, Jazz, 1999;Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson, 2004 and The War, 2007. He can be heard on Ted Nash's Grammy Award winning Presidential Suite (Motéma Records, 2016), Bria Skonberg's So Is The Day (Random Act Records, 2012), Delfeayo Marsalis' Sweet Thunder (Troubadour Jass Records, 2011), Herlin Riley's Cream of the Cresent (Criss Cross Records, 2005), Wycliffe Gordon's The Joyride (Nagel Hayer Records, 2003)  and Ruth Brown's A Good Day for the Blues (Bullseye Blues & Jazz, 1999) to name a few. He is an acclaimed solo artist and leads his own quartet and quintet. As a leader, Goines has ten recordings including his latest release, A Dance at the Mardi Gras Ball, (2016) as well as Twilight (2012) and Morning Swing (2011) from Rosemary Joseph Records as well as Love Dance (2007) and New Adventures (2006), both from Criss Cross Records. ​A gifted composer, Goines has more than 100 original works to his credit. In 2000, he was commissioned by Juilliard's Dance Division to compose a musical work in celebration of their 50th Anniversary. The composition Base Line premiered in 2002 to support the original choreography by Juilliard alumnus Robert Battle. In 2008, the University of Scranton Department of Music commissioned him to compose two pieces, O Lord, Help Us Find Our Way for choir and Three Sketches for Band. In 2014 Jazz at Lincoln Center commissioned Goines to compose Crescent City to feature Branford Marsalis and in 2016 Untamed Elegance.​Goines has recorded and/or performed with many noted jazz and popular artists including Ahmad Jamal, Terence Blanchard, Ruth Brown, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Ron Carter, Ray Charles, Eric Clapton, Chick Corea, Bo Diddley, Bob Dylan, Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Green, Lionel Hampton, Freddie Hubbard, B.B. King, Lenny Kravitz, Branford Marsalis, Ellis Marsalis, James Moody, Dianne Reeves, Willie Nelson, James Taylor, Marcus Roberts, Stevie Wonder and a host of other renowned musicians and ensembles. Additionally, he can be heard on the film scores for the motion pictures Undercover Blues, When Night Falls on Manhattan, and Rosewood as well as on music videos featuring Eric Clapton, Chick Corea, Garth Fagin, Bobby McFerring, Taj Mahal, Wynton Marsalis, Marcus Roberts and Linda Ronstadt.​Throughout his career, Goines has been deeply committed to the field of Jazz Education. In November 2007 he was named director of jazz studies and professor of music at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Prior to that appointment he was the artistic director of the jazz studies program at the Juilliard School, and a faculty member teaching saxophone and clarinet. During his tenure at the Juilliard School, the jazz studies program expanded its curriculum from a collaborative program with Jazz at Lincoln Center to include a Bachelor of Music, Master of Music and Artist Diploma. He has also served on the faculties of Florida A & M University, the University of New Orleans, Loyola University in New Orleans, and Xavier University.​A native of New Orleans, he began studying clarinet at age eight. He received a bachelor of music education degree from Loyola University in New Orleans in 1984 and a master of music degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia in 1990. What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? Street parking is free after 6pm Monday through Saturday. Street parking is free on Sunday. SPACE is located one block east of the Dempster Purple Line Stop.  What can I bring into the event? SPACE has a full bar with an exciting array of cocktails and an extensive beer list. While we do not serve food in our venue, customers are welcome to bring in pizza from Union, the restaurant up front. No outside food or beverages are allowed inside.
