Glacial Tomb Biography

Glacial Tomb’s unique blend of “sludge-corrupted blackened death metal” sets them apart from the bulk of modern extreme metal outfits. Featuring Ben Hutcherson of Khemmis on guitar and lead vocals, the group has made a name for itself as a devastating force whose releases have received critical acclaim. Kerrang! Magazine named the band as one of the top American metal bands of the 2010s.

The band's 2017 EP Cognitive Erosion combined myriad extreme influences to produce a virulent strain of punishing, unsettling music. That release garnered praise across the underground, as Decibel Magazine wrote that "[the] four-track debut is a 13-minute configuration of blackened sludge, smothering death, and explosive grind whose gestalt more than earns the title Cognitive Erosion,” while MetalSucks described the group’s sound as “wonderfully unhinged.”

In 2018, the band recorded their self-titled debut album at Flatline Audio with legendary producer Dave Otero and released it via underground powerhouse label Gilead Media and toured across America in support of the record. Critics hailed the record as a “collective exercise in coping not only with the toxic realities of modern global existence but also with tragedies of a profoundly personal nature” (Kerrang!) which “runs the entire gambit from crushing death metal to equally crushing doom.” (Metal Injection)
