DJ Barata

My given name Hugo Daniel Teixeira Barata, my stage name ‘DJ BARATA’. Son of both Angolan parents, hence my passion for music. It’s a fundamental part of my culture and was a influential part of my upbringing. Which stemed from my father and his love for music, old school classics i grew up listening too. I gained an interest at a very young age and started to take my fathers cds without him knowing. Listening to each song carefully, admiring not just the lyrics and melody but also the musical composition of songs and how they varied through different genres. Which later on triggered my interest in producing.

Over time my father realized my love of music and the ‘night life’. One night he surprised me by taking me to a matine, once inside i realized i was at the nightclub ‘NELLS’, back in 2001. I was infactuated, and my curiosity drove me to the DJ booth. I recognized the DJ playing, ‘DJ Eydie Holker’. I stood there admiring him as he deejayed, the song choices, the mixed and the crowds reaction, i loved every minute. Moving forward I continued to attend the club frequently and my curiosity for deejaying grew; i was hooked. One night i finally gained the courage to approach the DJ and ask if I could play a set, hesitant he looked at me and said, “why not”.

So I did and played the whole mix he had played the previous week. Shocked, he looked at me and said, “This has never happened to me before” and embraced me. From that day on I started my collection of cds and started playing with him; so I can say that my career started back in 2001|2002 in Nells Nightclub (Lisbon/Portugal). Since then im one of the most international djs i past almost every continents.
