Band Aparte Biography

Debut Album, Memory on Trial, out on Manifesto Records! https://soundcloud.com/manifestorecords/sets/bandapartememoryontrial bandapartemusic.bandcamp.com Employing a brooding blend of nervy post-punk and beachy West Coast goth rock, Los Angeles-based Band Aparte is the brainchild of Brian Mendoza. Inspired by seminal underground bands like Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, the Cure, Echo & the Bunnymen, Sonic Youth, New Order, and Dead Kennedys, the band's clever pairing of gloomy darkwave and big pop hooks eventually landed them at L.A. indie label Manifesto Records. The resulting Memory on Trial, their debut long-player, was released in 2016. "Well-dressed singer Brian Mendoza likes to attack his audience, while crushing roses and shaking his pompadour like a Latino Elvis gone nutso. He's also one of L.A.'s most fearless and unhinged performers, which is refreshing in a scene littered with depressed Kurt Cobain clones" LA Weekly 20 BestPunk Bands in LA "Memory On Trial succeeds on its own terms even if there are undoubtedly moments here that will feel wildly familiar. Brian Mendoza...[has] taken some hints from those acts, and other worthy ones, and crafted something that stands on its own terms as a thing of depth and emotion. Warm in spots, harsh in others, Memory On Trial is a superb mix of shoegaze and faint goth touches. This is, in some ways, the "big music" that The Waterboys once sang about and yet it's still clearly introspective and evocative. Band Aparte are a band to pay attention to and one listen to this album ought to get you on their team." apessimistisneverdisappointed.com “Cherry Chapstick” has a very familiar yet new sound to it. It takes you back and then brings you forward again. When Mendoza starts singing you’ll understand what we mean. His voice sounds like you’ve always heard it, but like it always the first time, again and again. There is nothing quite like it, especially in “Cherry Chapstick.” AXS.com "Strips down and combines elements of gothic rock, synthpunk, and beachy lo-fi ...effortlessly channels Joy Division and Nick Cave, Band Aparte's shows are fast and fierce, and the crowd works up a sweat at every venue they play" The Deli Magazine "Atmospheric voltages provided by diverse genre charms of darkwave, new romantic, synthpop and post-punk excellence. It has a tremendous respect and justice for those remarkable late 70’s-80’s post-punk/obscure new wave era magnificences" Forkster https://bandapartemusic.bandcamp.com/
