Music Nest organise grownup gigs that welcome kids. Having promoted gigs in Brighton for many years, including the popular Lonely Disco night at The Brunswick, Ben and Martha found out they were expecting their first child; this was brilliant but they realised that, like many of their friends, they wouldn't be able to attend gigs as often. Rather than admit defeat and break out the box sets they got organising.
Music Nest aims to bring top quality live music to The Brunswick at a reduced volume, with more light, activities for children and a relaxed atmosphere to noise, breastfeeding and all the other things that come with having children! It's a space that's designed to not just tolerate children but welcome them. The gigs are open to anyone who has a ticket and is up for listening to music in a relaxed and family friendly environment. More details can be found at www.musicnest.co.uk. In November we have the following amazing lineup!
The Self Help Group inhabit the musical spaces between folk, americana and indie. Always at the core of their sound though, are their stunning trademark 3 part harmonies which first came to attention on 2013's critically acclaimed "Not Waving But Drowning".
2013 saw the band sign to the Union Music Store label and release their debut album gaining fantastic reviews and national radio play("Absolutely wonderful, Bob Harris Radio 2"). On 6th November 2015 they released "Dead Stars", their second album displaying a more powerful, band driven sound, born from the energy of live performances and reflected in a darker lyrical subject matter, whilst retaining the beautiful harmonies from their previous work.
Hickory Signals in the words of Roots Magazine 'play some of the most charming and elegant music on the circuit today.' We certainly wouldn't disagree with them, they are a fantastic band who manage to imbue their own music with as much warmth, charm and originality as they add to some well and less known folk standards.
Triumphant appearances at Cambridge Folk Festival and Cecil Sharp House have cemented their place at the forefront of modern British folk.
