$16 (advance), $18 // 21+THE HELIO SEQUENCEWILD PINK---------------------The Portland-based duo HELIO SEQUENCE is comprised of vocalist/guitarist Brandon Summers and keyboardist/drummer Benjamin Weikel. Debuting in 1999 with an ambient, psychedelic sound that placed as much emphasis on the guitar as Summers’ muted vocals, the band issued the Accelerated Slow-Motion Cinema EP before dropping the full-length Com Plex in 2000. HELIO SEQUENCE’s 100-percent home studio approach allowed for a lot of sonic experimentation, and that aesthetic informed the swirls and layers of their evolving sound. In 2008, the duo released their classic album, Keep Your Eyes Ahead, to great acclaim and ten years later, the folks at Sub Pop get ready to eagerly reissue this bad boy. Expect to hear the hits. WILD PINK released their debut EP, Good Life, in the Summer of 2015. It was a brief but memorable introduction to the band's brand of introspective indie pop/rock. After numerous tours in support of Good Life the band hunkered down with Justin Pizzoferrato (Dinosaur Jr., Speedy Ortiz, Kindling, Sweet John Bloom) to record new songs. Just two releases later (including a debut LP) and WILD PINK are one of those wonderfully rare bands that sounds instantly familiar upon first listen. Yet trying to draw parallels to their influences or similar bands proves to be incredibly difficult. These are deeply personal songs about freedom, or lack thereof, about growing up and leaving your youth behind yet still clinging to those sacred scars that we hold dear. There is a sincerity that echoes throughout these songs that is intoxicating and speaks to what makes the band so special. WILD PINK choose the road less traveled and it has served them well.
