About Waiting for Wednesday

"Feisty female duo with sweet and husky voices harmonise distinctively in their stirring songs on living, loving and losing. Influenced by the likes of Joni, Janis and Emmylou, they write stories in the folk tradition and play them with a rock passion and country twang."

Waiting For Wednesday have played hundreds of gigs across their native Yorkshire on their journey together; captivating crowds at local festivals Saltaire and Beat-Herder, venues Brudenell, Oporto and Belgrave of Leeds and the Hebden Bridge Trades Club - all the way to the bars of Ireland including the famous Matt Molloy’s. An early On’t Sofa session introduced them to a wider audience on Youtube, and they continue to receive support from BBC Introducing for songs on their self-released records ‘Girls Don’t Play Guitar’, ‘When We Were Seventeen’, ‘Routes’ and 2020's 'Assembly Point Sessions' live EP.

Of the three tracks, (soul) sisters Anna and Laura explain “it’d been a while since we had recorded anything, and this evening in January at Assembly Point really came together naturally with two friends playing guitar and fiddle alongside us. We decided to do a cover of a song that was inspirational to us, an old one that we’d not yet released and the most recent song we’ve written together, and we should have done more really as we’re so pleased with how they sound and look. We’re really happy to support Matt Dunwell’s Assembly Point Studio in Leeds too, as he aims to provide independent musicians with quality professional videos to help them gain opportunities.”

The unconventional Sunday March 8th release day was chosen to help raise awareness of women’s rights issues and causes around the world on International Womens Day 2020. The duo also played a packed out hometown gig that afternoon at Caroline Street Social Club in Saltaire where they hoped to recreate some of the sounds from the Assembly Point Sessions with George Quinn and Kieran O'Malley joining them live on stage,

As a pair, they’ve already shared stages with a range of acclaimed singer songwriters including Billie Marten, JP Cooper and the Lost Brothers, as well as experienced playing support to folk legends like Fotheringay, We Banjo 3 and Mozaik to large new crowds. Now with a rehearsed fuller lineup at the ready, alongside their tested acoustic guitar and vocal harmony partnership, Waiting For Wednesday are looking to introduce themselves to as many fans of soulful country, blues and Americana as possible going forwards.
