Bad Faces Biography
Bad Faces are a psychedelic Americana rock band based in Brooklyn, NY; who over the past 5 years have been drawing diverse crowds at prime NYC venues such as (le) Poisson Rouge, Rockwood Music Hall, and the Bowery Electric. Drawing from an amalgamation of influences ranging from ragtime-blues and outlaw-country to space rock and experimental jazz, their live show is at once familiar and ever fresh.
Built around the self-reflective songs of guitarist and lead vocalist Barry Komitor, the band shines their enthusiasm for the moment through an authentic and weathered patina. The crack rhythm section is propelled by two of NYC’s most creative and ferocious young jazz artists: bassist Nick Jozwiak, also an accomplished cellist and composer; and drummer/vocalist Ethan Kogan, a fixture on the jazz scene in Harlem and throughout the city. Singing backing vocals and exchanging roles on guitar and keyboards are Brian Stollery, an avowed devotee and vital voice of improvisation and exploration in the tradition of the Grateful Dead and Phish; and Franklin Santiago, a protege of Komitor’s through non-profit education programs and a prolific songwriter and producer. Collectively, their four-part vocal harmonies add texture and nuance to complete the sonic picture. The magic of Bad Faces is that even as each member brings a distinct individual personality to each tune, the common goal of delivering the song with heart and abandon is what creates their unified, trademark sound.
