Jane Bunnett

You don't necessarily think of Canada when you think of Latin jazz. But after hearing Toronto's own Jane Bunnett perform live, you're probably going to change your mind. The saxophonist, flutist and bandleader has built her career at the intersection of Cuban music and jazz. Twice nominated for Grammy Awards and a fixture of the nominations for Canada's Juno Awards, she has turned her bands into showcases for the finest musical talent from Canada, the United States and Cuba. For this show at Seattle's Triple Door as part of the Earshot Jazz Festival, Bunnett will be joined by Maqueque Cuban Women's Ensemble. The name "Maqueque" means "energy of a young girl's spirit," and the quartet's collaborations with Bunnet are legendary for their own vibrant spirit.
