SHAKKA Biography

Shakka proves that innovation is alive and well in R&B today. Described as an artist with “a very distinctive sound that he uses with pride” by The Independent, the West London native continues to wow his audience with both music and live performances gushing with energy, passion and pure unadulterated fun. Bursting onto the scene with a chart-topping collaboration alongside Wretch 32 (in the form of “Blackout”) in 2013 after developing the ever-growing YouTube cover series that is “The Shakkapellas”, Shakka went on to tour the world with the globally-renowned duo Basement Jaxx which led to him being tipped as one of the Top 20 Unsigned Artists of 2013 by MTV. This led to a string of MOBO nominations, as well as consistent airplay on BBC Radio 1Xtra as Shakka continued to release more solo efforts such as the “Tribe” EP and also feature in the National Theatre production “Home” alongside Antonia Thomas (Misfits) and BAFTA award-winning Michaela Coel (Chewing Gum). With no signs of slowing down, Shakka proceeded to sign with Sony Music under which he went on to release the debut major label EP “The Lost Boys”, featuring bass-heavy hits such as “Say Nada”. This led to the official “Say Nada” remix with Boy Better Know’s JME – packed with equal amounts of bounce and punch – accumulating over 7M views on YouTube as well as over 10M streams on Spotify alone. Having toured and promoted the EP globally for a year, Shakka returned to the studio to deliver the chronological follow-up entitled “The Island” which went on to debut at #17 on iTunes. Having consistently released innovative music that evokes an undeniable shimmy, the MOBO Awards presented Shakka with his second “Best R&B/Soul Act” award matched with The Independent pitting the forward-thinking artist/producer as “One to Watch” for 2017. In the current day, Shakka continues to collaborate with a wide range of staple figures within UK music (such as Ghetts, Donae’o, Fekky, The Original Dodger and much more) whilst performing spot dates on notable stages (including supporting Jess Glynne in Wales on her UK tour) as he gears up to tour the country in October on “The Lost Boys Tour”. With constant teasers across his social media, there is no telling what boundaries Shakka is preparing to break next. #Tribe4Life
