The Johnson Party

The Johnson Party is a 7-piece band that creates original music by joining eclectic influences, including rock, reggae, folk, country, and blues. The band surprises audiences with fresh rhythms and uniquely joined sounds, from the pop-laden “Apartment”, to the thick Americana stylings of “Sweet Amy”. Having several multi-instrumentalists in the band, the band covers new ground by mixing instruments into territory not normally heard – sax into folk tunes, sitar into rock pieces… Johnson’s acoustic guitar anchors most compositions and provides a rootsy positive vibe to their performances. Their most recent release is the single Bigfoot, which is an integral part of the broad nature conservation effort, Bigfoot For Wildlands (www.bigfootforwildlands.org). Many of the band members are avid hikers and outdoorsmen. Propelled by an off-beat and gritty YouTube video, sales of the song benefit grass roots non-profits working to save our planet’s last wild places. The Johnson Party originally formed in Atlanta, GA in 2012. Erik Johnson and school teacher Kerry Griffee had been singing together at late night backyard jams for several years. Johnson had been lining up gigs, filling out The Party’s line-up with percussionist and friend Erik Wallin and lead guitarist John Hill. The bass was added by answering an ad placed in Craig’s List by self-proclaimed flower child Tom Spach. Tom Heene on drums was added in 2014. Four out of the seven band members are songwriters and lead vocals get bounced around between the group.
