Jean Grae Biography
Formerly known as What Whut?! (also What What), Jean Grae (born in Cape Town, South Africa on November 27, 1976) is an independent hip hop Okayplayer MC hailing from New York. Her first major debut to the public eye was with the group Natural Resource, whose track entitled Negro League Baseball was featured on DJ Babu's World Famous Beat Junkies Mixtape Volume 1 in 1996. She has since released an EP and 2 LPs as well as being featured on numerous artists' albums and mixtapes, including Pumpkinhead, Talib Kweli, The Herbaliser, Immortal Technique, PackFM, and Masta Ace.
She is the daughter of South African jazz musicians Sathima Bea Benjamin and Abdullah Ibrahim.
