DJ Kos Biography

DJ Kos Bio

In 1967 a star was born. Coming from a family with a father of various musical talents he was exposed to music day in and day out. As he grew older and the age of disco came along, he started to see his love for music grow.

In 1983 breakdancing was taking over the world and he got his first glimpse of it on MTV and USA Night Flight. Now realizing what he wanted to do as a young teenager, he helped create his own breakdance group. Becoming the best group from the region he quickly realized how much he loved to be on stage, perform and make so many people happy. But the talent did not stop there. As his group became more and more widely known he would strive to take them one step further. With every local breakdancer playing their store bought K-Tel tapes, he decided he wanted to have his own style of music and mixes. He then started buying 12" records from a local record store and borrowed someone elses turntables. He then started taking all the records he had bought from the record store and would mix them together. This was the beginning of DJ Kos.

In 1987 he purchased a set of Technic 1200 turntables and a Gemini MX 2200 mixer (first and one of the best scratch mixers ever). Practicing his mixing and scratching skills everyday he decided to take his talent on step further.

In 1989 he got sponsored to go to the DMC finals in Chicago. It was there he realized he was able to compete with DJ's from all over the world. Meeting Bad Boy Bill, Muggs (Cypress Hill), DJ Alladin and DJ Miz gave him the motivation and inspiration to keep going down the road to success.

In 1991 he realized he would need to leave his hometown to take his learning experience to another level. He then made a videotape of his talents and sent it to Derrick Rahming from Hip Rock Records. He received a call back telling him that he was what he was looking for. After hitting it off so well, he then decided to move to Florida to work and produce with Derrick full time. It was there he helped with production and had the chance to produce 3 of his own songs to later be on 2 different CDs. KOS-N-Quake appears on the CD Looking for a way out by Six One Dog and the City Boys. Baddest DJ and Wick Wack DJ appear on the CD Bass Box by 7th Order. Both CDs were nationally released on Hip Rock Records in the early 90's. He also had the chance to help with other tracks on such great albums by Afro Rican and Power Supply also released by Hip Rock Records. While in Florida he had the chance to spin in many great clubs in South Florida area helping to establish him in a market with so much talent.

In 1997 the journey began with the plans for the trade shows and meetings in Las Vegas. After making some connections while there it was decided make the move into the electronic scene. After sending out demos, the bookings started coming in. After a key booking in June 2000, he met up with Diggabeats from Utah. They boggled everyone's mind by doing a last minute 2 x 4 at Reflect 2000 in Cleveland. From that moment the buzz was started about this DJ that was able to mix and scratch with great precision. The exposure of these two got them booked at a huge event Plastic. Because of the promoter booking them last minute, neither Kos nor Diggabeats appeared on the flyer. But to the surprise of everyone, these two played a set at 5 AM that had everyone that was ready to leave coming back to see what was going on. Even trance legend Christopher Lawrence quit his set to see what was going on at the other stage where everyone had crowded around. There is still talk till this present time about these two completely steeling the show from a party filled with many DJ legends. It was after that party that everyone wanted to know who was this awesome DJ with mad scratching skills, precise mixing and great stage presence.

In November of 2000 Kos decided to go ahead with a last minute 2 x 4 with a DJ that was also on signed to the same agency as Kos. This moment proved to be one of the largest turning points in is career. This DJ's name was DJ Xavier from Cleveland. It was after that night that both Kos and Xavier realized that they had something special together when they were on stage. After a year of headlining parties everywhere from Las Vegas, NY, Myrtle Beach and Kansas City just to name a few, the name Kos and Xavier had become a household name.

In 2003 Kos and Xavier put together the long awaited Back to the Basics DVD/CD and went on tour once again. This DVD featured footage from the past years, behind the scenes and more. It also contained the new Cd Back to the Basics.

In 2006 Kos went back to this solo career and Vestax has brought him on board once again. In October of 2006 he signed with East Music group to take his talent to the masses. On October 31st, 2006 Kos will be releasing his first solo cd in 2 years and going on his cd release tour to back it up. This new mix is entitled Velocity and shows why Kos is a one of kind dj.
