BC Biography

As a man and a musician, Brian Carrion is full of surprises. Coming up on the release of his third record, Algorhythm, he shapeshifts effortlessly as a producer, songwriter, and vocalist through cascades of electro-soul hooks and dance floor antics with a wink and a nod. By turns sensitive, suggestive, and wryly comedic, Carrion’s tunes throw electronic shapes against sweeping pop backdrops - telling stories, coaxing hips and feet into motion. Originally relocating from Houston to Nashville in 2012, Brian set about to combine unabashed sincerity with a taste for the sweetly ridiculous in his beat-heavy album heART. Never one to shrink from the many roles entwined in his work, he set off on a completely self-booked solo tour of 40 dates following the release of heART. Traveling in an unassuming compact car and melding each stage show according to the whims of the moment, he has been known to burst into Disney covers alongside unannounced dance interludes and loop-based classic hip hop. People and episodes from his travels often find their way into the stories told through his entertainer’s lens. Carrion’s latest release, Algorhythm, sidles up to the listener like a Stevie Wonder earworm, lush and lascivious atop waterbed basslines. Through track after track of supremely danceable pop, a pervasive sense of humor keeps the listener guessing just what kind of inside jokes are playing out beneath the surface. “Me a Machine” cheerfully reverses the narrative of movies like “Her” as Carrion takes on the voice of a smartphone falling helplessly in love with its technology-obsessed owner on an undulating, futuristic groove trip. Hip Hop hooks and rap verses even make an appearance on the moody “Water Under the Bridge”. Tight electronic production underpins Carrion’s patently sexy funk guitar and crystalline vocal range. On “Fascinating”, heART’s standout track, radio-primed pop/funk riffs tell the story of young obsession and captivation in often hilarious terms: “You are so fucking awesome, it’s incredible.” Brian Carrion’s watchword is the endlessly unexpected. As versatile and varied as they come, he threads his sonic field trips through with an ever-present sense of feeling. His internet-fueled brand, “Who is BC?”, proves to be a rhetorical question with no clear answer, and Brian continues to weave a fun-filled forward path with strands of childlike curiosity, teenage emotion, attraction and mesmerizing showmanship. whoisBC.com
