Chris Garrick Music Biography

Chris Garrick has revitalized jazz violin playing so that it has been rejuvenated for the 21st century. Whilst still able to play in the tradition established by Stephane Grappelli, Chris has forged his own style which reflects his contemporary interests. He has been described as a jazz violinist extraordinaire, a wild, creative musician who strides across the genres of jazz from Grappelli to McLaughlin. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, 38-year old British musician and composer Chris Garrick is among the world’s leading jazz and improvising violinists. He has recorded seven solo albums including Different Strokes, a top ten album in U.K’s The Times. His solo violin is heard on many film soundtracks including Chicago, Chocolate, Brideshead Revisited, The Edge of Love, Borat and Moulin Rouge. This last year has seen him playing at London’s Royal Festival Hall with Barry Wordsworth and the BBC Concert Orchestra in a performance of Astor Piazzolla’s Seasons, with Dame Cleo Laine at the Barbican and at the North Sea Jazz Festival, and in the premiere of a new jazz violin concerto written especially for him by Sir John Dankworth. His own band, the Chris Garrick Quartet, played three sell-out nights at the world renowned Ronnie Scott’s jazz club in London’s Soho, and he was invited to join a new band led by the legendary Van Morrison. http://www.chrisgarrick.com/ http://soundcloud.com/chris-garrick-music
