Elko Fields Biography
ELKO FIELDS is Kella Vee (guitar/vocals) – a female-fronted rock vessel crafting a cut-throat and unforgiving twist to dark blues and garage rock n’ roll. A body, morphed to a Les Paul ‘Black Beauty’, scattering thunderous blues-infused riffs to sweetened sassy vocals. With rock n’ roll the wagon to a journey of shredded love, existentialism and cosmic insignificance, ELKO FIELDS oozes rawness and vulnerability as a cut the bullshit front-woman. Likened to bands The Dead Weather for her unorthodox approach to rock, Royal Blood for their mammoth live presence, Vee breaks all rules of structure with un-expecting time changes, eerie semi-tone bends, with the essence of Nick Cave and PJ Harvey darkness, slightly brutal, razor-like hair and boots unpolished.
After releasing a handful of raucous, unapologetically produced demos, ELKO FIELDS debuted a live set with a headline show at The Zoo in November 2015. In November 2016 came the release of a 6-track debut EP, premiered by Rolling Stone Australia with humbling reviews for the fresh act. Soon after an East-coast of Australia proceeded with a handful of headline shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and finishing in the hometown of Brisbane.
April 2017 saw the addition of The Medics’ drummer Jhindu-Pedro Lawrie to join forces of an electrifying live two-piece line-up. A powerful dynamic between two instrumentalists possessed, the pair take no prisoners in stupefying crowds with their inescapable energy, transmitting heavy frequencies to the unsuspecting ears of their crowds.
August 2017 saw the duo spread their dirty riffs across the country on an East-Coast Australian Tour to support the release of their film-clip for ‘Never Slow Down’. A washed-out, colour filled journey on top of a bright pink Fiat Bambino strapped with amplifiers, capturing the raw essence of the band’s chaotic live presence.
Now 2018, after polishing off EP no. 2 with acclaimed Producer Nick Didia (Rage Against The Machine, Bruce Springsteen, Powderfinger) in the blissful studio of Byron Bay, ELKO FIELDS are set to unleash their power-filled rock album to the world later this year.
“ELKO FIELDS never let control slip, refining their noise-rock minimalism with snarling vocals, brooding blues hooks and arena-scaled thunder" - RollingStone Australia
