Matt York Biography

Fresh off the release of his live DVD Midnight Madness, Matt York is just about ready to burst back on the scene. The DVD, filmed on location at the Midnight Madness Festival in Matt's hometown of Oakville, Ontario was directed and produced by Dan Ramirez (DMB, O.A.R) and acted as a preview to the upcoming Matt York Band project. Funny enough, this was the first show that all the guys had played together so it was anyone's guess how it would translate on film. The end result was a killer 90 minute set and loads of great interviews with Matt, his band, his good buddies from the band Nine Mile and other interesting insights into what Matt's all about.

From the DVD Matt went straight into the studio to start prepping and writing for his second full-length album "Mine". Working with songwriters Andy Stochansky, Joel Parisien and Brad Stella, Matt spent the course of a year writing and laying low working hard on making his next album. With elements of Ben Harper, James Taylor, Jamiroquai, Amos Lee, Ray LaMontagne, and Martin Sexton shining through on this latest effort, Matt has really come into his own as a songwriter and musician. So much so that his song "Lucky Man", a new version of which is on the new album, landed him the top 3 spot in the annual Mix 99.9 songwriting competition - one of Toronto's largest radio stations.

The new album is slated for release this fall, but look for some sneak previews to be released over the next few months. Here's a little blurb from Matt:

" I'm not a big fan of bio's cause they always sound so fake and cheesy. When someone reads about me I want them to know that yeah i'm a musician and a songwriter but i'm just like everyone else. I work a day job like they do, I slug it out like they do, I take public transit, I love music, I do dumb shit sometimes but it makes me a better me. I've been around the music scene for a while and loved every minute of it. I hope that through me doing what I love I can give people something to relate to. Whether it's a lyric or a melody or a little guitar lick that they latch onto and keep for themselves it's all good. I can't wait to get back on the road and bringing it with this new album - I think people are really going to dig it."
