About this concert
Staghorn was founded in South Florida by Jared and Lexy, later joined by a third member, Luke, and eventually transplanted to their current location of Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. The collective imagined an origin story of "Staghorn" (accompanied by a comic book illustrating as such alongside their first EP), which tells of the fictional post-apocalyptic group of people who have traveled back in time to warn humanity of an animal revolt in the the future that will leave mankind on the brink of extinction. With two of the band's members currently living predominantly off-grid, their environmental ethics and exhaustingly DIY attitude are at the heart of everything the Staghorn collective does, including their Mogwai/ Godspeed You! Black Emperor style of epic, introspective, transcendentalist compositions. Equally heavy in concept and musicality, their art is meant to create a soundtrack to a better world by highlighting that which is both bleak and hopeful along the way. Strongly principled as a do-it-yourself collective which operates Leave Your Mark Print Shop and Mills Custom Amps, the band uses their trades, creativity and compassion to affect a working, sustainable future: they create their own amps and cabs, print all of their own merch, and have records pressed that are predominantly made of recycled materials. In short, activism is the driving force behind every element of Staghorn's art.

Staghorn Biography

We, are Staghorn,
An enigmatically narrated three-piece outfit from Urbana, Illinois debuts “Parousia I / Kismet II” - 30 minutes of euphonic introspection where global ethic and activism transcend the traditional parameters of music. Equally heavy in concept and musicality, “Parousia I / Kismet II” is the soundtrack to building a better world. Set within proverbial walls of sound a spoken word narrative concerning a final human settlement evokes images of dystopia, invoking moods both bleak and hopeful.
Strongly principled as a do-it-yourself collective operating Leave Your Mark Print Shop and Mills Custom Amps, all vinyl and CD copies of “Parousia I / Kismet II” come with detailed custom packaging, designed, screen-printed, and built from the ground up in house. Creativity and compassion effects a working, sustainable future. Music. Thought. Action. Solidarity. You, are Staghorn.

“Bands like Staghorn remind me how superb instrumental rock can truly be, and how I need to be listening to more of it. This kind of music unfolds like a great novel, taking you on a journey. Staghornʼs 30-minute set was short, but not abbreviated, because they were debuting ““Parousia I / Kismet II,” a work of art that can only be loosely called an “album,” because it transcended that. Their performance played out like the soundtrack to the apocalypse, with stark flashing lights and clips of spoken-word about dismal times. Two of the three members wore face coverings, all wore hoods, and they were otherwise costumed for a dystopian life in the desert a-la Mad Max. Then their heavy guitars smashed through a depiction of the disintegration of society.”
