On the 50th anniversary of the band's inception at an event in Harlem, NY to commemorate Malcolm X's birthday on May 19th, 1968, influential spoken word artists, poets and commentators The Last Poets returned with their first album in over 20 years, Understand What Black Is. With their latest album, Transcending Toxic Times, scheduled to be released in May 2019, The Last Poets are poised to celebrate and further their legacy.

With the support of children's advocacy non-profit agency Team Triumphant, alongside RCSC, present The Last Poets Block Party, May 19th, 2019, in Historic Anacostia. Join us at Busboys and Poets for a day filled with community, music, and pride. Hosted by Pages Matam, and featuring performances from Black Alley, Smif N Wessum, and headliner Talib Kweli, The Last Poets Block Party is an event not be missed.
