About this concert
Synthpop sensations TINY MAGNETIC PETS will be coming to The Flapper on their debut headline tour. The band are looking to build on the success of their recent 20 date UK tour supporting synthpop legends OMD. Their set will feature new material alongside tracks from their critical and commercial hit album ‘Deluxe /Debris’ on Happy Robots Records. They will be promoting their forthcoming single ‘Radio On’ a collaboration with the Kraftwerk legend Wolfgang Flür. Their tight and energetic live set has been compared to Chvrches and described as “if Saint Etienne collaborated with Kraftwerk” (The Electricity Club). Supported by RODNEY CROMWELL who is promoting his acclaimed EP ‘Rodney’s English Disco’. Described by Louder Than War as “brilliant wonky electronica”, tracks have featured on multiple BBC6 Music shows. His vintage-styled electronica sits sonically somewhere between The Cure, New Order and the 'retro futurism' of Ghostbox Records. Also on the bill is John Biddulph, the ex-member of Jools Holland's band will be gracing the stage with his lush electronic soundscapes.

Rodney Cromwell Biography

Rodney Cromwell's sound has been compared to the 70' and 80's synthpop made by the likes of Kraftwerk, OMD, Section 25 and New Order, as well as to contemporary 'retro futurists' such as those on Ghostbox Records. His lyrical sardonic wit has been compared to John Grant.

Hailing from Catford, Rodney Cromwell is the project of Adam Cresswell, founding member of indie-folktronica band SALOON (who had four entries in John Peel’s Festive 50 & recorded three Peel Sessions) and one half of electronic two-piece ARTHUR & MARTHA (acclaimed by the likes of NME & The Guardian).

The debut LP ‘Age of Anxiety’ evoked a classic synthpop sound while still being forward looking and fresh. Motorik rhythms combined with melodic bass lines, the chimes of toy instruments, and the bleeps of retro synths within a lo-fi pop aesthetic. It explored themes such as romantic despair, love, loss and panic but still remained upbeat and uplifting.

The album found crossover appeal gaining Rodney Cromwell media coverage from the likes of NME, Electronic Sound, Huffington Post and Steve Lamacq and Gideon Coe on BBC 6 Music and RNE3 in Spain. At the end of 2015 Rodney Cromwell featured in 25 'Best of' lists and was named 'Most Promising New Act' by The Electricity Club. 'Barry was an arms dealer' featured in the 2015 Official Festive 50 on Dandelion Radio.

The live set incorporates analogue synths, tailor-made video visuals and live instrumentation backing up Rodney’s blissful tunes and ‘offbeat wit’. In 2015 Rodney Cromwell made an incredibly well-received festival debut at Indietracks and, with his band and knackered synths, is now taking his melodic electronic pop to new audiences. He has made festival appearances in the UK and in Spain at Madrid Popfest and has supported the likes of Marsheaux, Death and Vanilla and 'snookerstar DJ' Steve Davis.

An EP of all new material 'Rodney's English Disco' is scheduled for release in May 2018 to coincide with a UK Tour.
