The Wayside Shakeup Biography
The Wayside Shakeup began in 2003 in an apartment in Philadelphia, PA. Founding members Chris DʼAntonio and Rob Volansky wrote a handful of original tunes that would eventually make up their self-titled debut album. After a hiatus and reunion in 2007, they began writing songs again with the intent of recording and playing live. In 2011, after several years of gigging as an acoustic duo, mutual friend and keyboardist Eric Raible was asked to record on The Wayside Shakeupʼs debut album (The Wayside Shakeup), and signed on as the full-time keyboardist shortly after. The lineup was filled out with John McLeod on bass and Mike Leger on drums. The group released its second album, Optimistic, in 2013, off which the title track received airplay on Philadelphiaʼs 88.5 WXPN and Radio 104.5, as well as on popular internet stations Gashouse Radio and XRP Radio. The bandʼs diverse sound draws from a wide variety of influences of the members, from shades of groups like Pearl Jam to the Grateful Dead to Gaslight Anthem to Pink Floyd, and all points in between. Together, they form a melodic sound filled with soaring harmonies, compact jams, raucous blues romps, power-pop ballads and more – everything needed to get the crowd moving. Playing live is a core tenet of the groupʼs ethos. Based in Philadelphia, The Wayside Shakeup has played some of their home regionʼs most popular rooms, including World Café Live, the Trocodero Theatre, longtime indie-rock venue The Legendary Dobbs, Ardmore Music Hall, as well as a number of outdoor festivals and events. Ranging from rock and roll to funk and soul, shameless pop to wobbly blues with a sly wink to everything from doo-wop to grunge
