About this concert
Erland Cooper is an award winning, multi-instrumentalist and producer who was born and raised on the archipelago of Orkney, Scotland. Having previously released critically acclaimed albums with The Magnetic North and Erland and the Carnival, Erland released his debut solo album, Solan Goose, in spring 2018.\nThe project began as a gentle response to ease an anxiety and claustrophobia from working in a city. Exploring the borders between alternative, electronic and classical music, Solan Goose is a work of balance and calm - creating a kind of liminal space for both writer and listener.\nIt's a record to travel to, and evokes themes of migration, restoration and childhood memory. For Erland, it's a call to his roots in Orkney. Each song on the album is entitled with a bird name in local Orcadian dialect Maalie (Fulmer), Bonxie (Great Skua), Kattiface (short-eared owl) while the archipelago's folklore, music, myth and mythology are echoed and layered throughout the album's arrangements.\nThe album features Minimoog & piano by Erland, with Hardanger violin and soprano performed by Charlotte Greenhow, as well as additional ambient guitar from renowned guitarist/producer, Leo Abrahams.\nErland envisaged Solan Goose as a layered and collaborative work, and true to form, he will be joined for this event by two outstanding poets: Will Burns and Emily Hasler.\n- - -\nDoors 7.30pm, start time 8pm.\n- - -\nCONCESSIONS: Concessionary ticket prices are available for people who are registered disabled, unemployed or on a low wage, under 16s and students. Free personal assistant tickets are available for all of our events. Please email info@kenilworthartsfestival.co.uk to confirm a place.

Erland Cooper Biography

Erland Cooper is an award winning, multi-instrumentalist and producer who was born and raised on the archipelago of Orkney, Scotland.

Exploring a balance between alternative, electronic and classical music, his debut solo project began as a gentle response to ease anxiety and claustrophobia working in a large city - setting out to create a sense of balance and calm for both him and the listener, while connecting identity, memory and place through music and cinematography.

When creating music, Erland believes it often reflects the landscape a musician is surrounded with in some small way, be it rural, urban, real or imagined. Rich in folklore, music, myth and mythology, Orkney has strong Scandinavian influences that are echoed and layered throughout his arrangements.

Previous projects include The Magnetic North, which blends orchestral arrangement, rock, and electronica and his early work as lead to progressive folk rock band Erland and the Carnival.

Erland owns a London recording studio, which is now home to some of the UK’s most acclaimed leftfield producers, artists and mixing engineers.

He has also scored and produced music for TV & Film in the UK, US and Canada.
