Thumpermonkey play their first ever show in Southampton, promoting their new album, "Make Me Young, etc”. Guitarist and pianist Rael Jones’s day job as a screen composer infiltrates and inflates the music into an epic cinemascope fever-dream – a backdrop to Woodman’s unique stream of consciousness vocal style, perfectly suspended in a score to a film that doesn’t exist.

“There’s modern classical, metal, jazz, and post-rock in the complicated theatre of this Scott Walker-esque fin-de-siecle fever dream that loops in Magma, Peter Hammill, Gentle Giant and Shudder to Think for a challenging yet beautifully constructed listen”.
CLASSIC ROCK MAGAZINE

“...an audacious and utterly absorbing statement from a band that have always seemed to revel in their shadowy, underground status, but that here sound ready to step into the light and blow some minds”
PROG MAGAZINE.

A Formal Horse is a visceral rock quartet working out of Southampton. Formed in 2012 by Russell Mann, Benjamin Short and Mike Stringfellow, the band has released three EPs to date and are currently finalising their debut full-length album. The album, recorded by Rob Aubrey (IQ, Big Big Train) and to be released later in 2019, features Hayley McDonnell on vocals and is the first not to feature a line-up change (at the time of writing).

"Excellent... A visceral rock band and I can't argue with that."
- Stuart Maconie, BBC 6 Music

“The Southampton quartet’s second EP, combines nervy, twitching rhythms – think XTC playing Voivod’s back catalogue – with pure-as-the-driven female vocals. The result is oddly intoxicating.”
- Classic Rock Magazine (8/10)

“Possessing an appealingly quirky logic that thinks nothing of leaping between barbed, bulldozing riffs to delicate introspection… AFH are very much their own beast.”
- Prog Magazine
