About this concert
Puddle of Mudd Live at the 02 Academy Bristol Wednesday 24th July 2019 Plus support from Bristol Alt Rockers The Vigil: www.facebook.com/thevigilmusic O2 Priority tickets available Thursday 18-4-19 at 9am General On Sale Saturday 18-4-19 at 9am Tickets available at: https://academymusicgroup.com/o2academybristol/events/1260603/puddle-mudd-tickets Wesley Reid Scantlin (vocals/guitar) Matt Fuller (lead guitar/backing vocals) Michael John Adams (bass/backing vocals) Dave Moreno (drums/backing vocals) Puddle Of Mudd is an American post- grunge band from Kansas City, Missouri. The band has sold over 7 million albums and has a string of No.1 mainstream rock singles in the US. Their major label debut ‘Come Clean’ has sold over five million copies. Ask Puddle of Mudd frontman Wes Scantlin about the writing and recording of the album Volume 4: Songs in the Key of Love & Hate, and he responds with the same spirit of carefree wanderlust that defines his band: "It's all easy peezy, dude, no big deal at all..." Not to him, maybe. Wes Scantlin is custom-made for the new millennium, a rock star without the pretense, and a frontman whose spontaneity propels his offstage personality as much as it does his onstage delivery. "Wes is constantly adjusting to the vibe in the room, throwing his flavor in there and constantly trying to make people laugh," explains bassist Doug Ardito. "He doesn't do the David Lee Roth thing, where he delivers the same lines every night, he's completely off-the-cuff." On Volume 4, Scantlin does deliver the same savvy lyrics that fans have come to expect since the band's multi-platinum debut, Come Clean, weaving subtle innuendo and not-so-subtle lyrical wordplay around vocal hooks so thick, they even seem to make life's more sour realities easier to swallow. Case in point, "Psycho," the smash single from the band's 2007 release Famous that rationalizes a relationship with, 'maybe I'm the one, who is, a schizophrenic psycho.' Famous, like both albums before it, was certified Gold after selling more than 500,000 copies in America alone. Propelled by "Psycho," the album cemented Puddle of Mudd's status as bona-fide hit makers, and earned them industry accolades including Billboard's No. 1 Mainstream Rock Song of 2008 and No. 2 Rock Band of the Year, where they finished second only to the Foo Fighters. Keeping in that tradition, the new album goes down like the smoothest shot you'll ever take. No chaser required - unless, like Scantlin and guitarist Paul Phillips, you opt for a cold, frosty one. Volume 4 is a homecoming for Phillips, who left the band shortly into the recording process for Famous. Despite the success of "Psycho," something was missing, and when Phillips and Scantlin reconnected earlier this year, all the prior tension had melted away and their chemistry was rediscovered. Early Years (1992-2000) Puddle Of Mudd was formed September 13, 1991 by Wes Scantlin (vocals/ rhythm guitar). According to Wes, the band name was inspired by practicing next to the Missouri River levy which always inundated the bands practice space but never ruined their equipment because they were on the second floor. Their first album, Stuck, was released in 1994 on V&R Records; it spawned two radio singles. 2001- Now In September 2014, the band released the non- album single “Piece of the Action”. In July 2018 band announced that they were recording their sixth studio album. ### Websites Merch · www.puddleofmuddmerch.com/ Twitter · twitter.com/puddleofmudd Facebook · www.facebook.com/puddleofmudd

New Vigil Bio 6-10-16

Bristol based alt rockers The Vigil have today announced details of their forthcoming album. Titled 'Save Our Souls', the four piece's eagerly awaited debut will be released on the 25th of November.

This storming debut was produced by Nigel Pulsford from the band Bush. The Vigil have always enjoyed playing a heavy rock sound with big drums, music that really hits you in your core.

The band released the first video from 'Save Our Souls', entitled 'Do You Feel Alive' earlier this year. The second release from the album, entitled 'All You've Done' will be released on October the 28th - so watch this space!

The Vigil has its roots going back to the late '90's when as kids Dom Mehigan (Bass) and Olly Smith (Guitar/ Vocals) would jam around each other's garages choosing to focus on original songs rather than the Britpop of the day or covers. With a sound more in tune with their influences of Nirvana, Everclear, Smashing Pumpkins, and digging deep into the US underground with acts such as 7 Year Bitch and '80's punk rock like the Dead Kennedys and Fugazi. The Vigil enlisted Jamie Davenport on drums and Robbie Schuck on the six string, and the line up was complete.

Having performed together under various names and guises, The Vigil moved to Bristol, integrating into that scene and supported some impressive bands, such as their early heroes Everclear, Therapy?, The Datsuns and Puddle of Mud. Following a great reaction from the crowds, they knew they had to make an album. They began looking for a producer and realised lead guitar was an important element to the overall sound they wanted to achieve. On learning that Nigel Pulsford from the multi platinum selling British rock band Bush had moved to nearby Bath, they got in touch.

To the bands delight Nigel was interested in working with them as their producer, as well as offering to play lead guitar on the album. "Nigel is by far my favourite lead player from the '90's alt rock explosion with such an interesting approach and texture that isn't your standard rock guitar licks" says vocalist Olly. "Making the album was a really exciting time, some days we would have Royal Blood in the next room over and The Pixies were in the studio after us we knew we were in the right place. The album is the out pouring of our entire musical journey from when we were kids to the present day, the struggle, the moments of triumph and most of all, the expression of a sound that we've longed for in other bands that we have tried our best to deliver. We are very happy with how it has turned out and it will hopefully allow us to build on the sound and make another album."

With their debut album ready to be released through their own Fever Dog Records, and their new video directed by legendary rock photographer Steve Gullick, plus album artwork created by esteemed concert poster artist Jackknife, The Vigil are ready hit your stereo!

In the run up to the release of 'Save Our Souls', The Vigil will be playing a number of shows. You can experience The Vigil live and loud at the following dates:

Bath Moles 28-7-16
(Supporting Tax the Heat)
The Vigil, who sound like every grunge band you’ve ever heard rolled into one. Mainly Nirvana but with hints of both Soundgarden and Alice in Chains. They’re loud and powerful, with frontman Olly Smith leading them in suitably heavy fashion through songs like “No One Wins” and “Nothing Sacred.” It’s also apparent that Robbie Schuck is a talented lead guitarist."

Bugbear Promotions The Dublin Castle, Camden London:

"Vigil-old school Sabbathy riff powered metal that chugs stonerishly and crunches NWOBHMishly...excellently low slung and indie aware..Liam Gallagher takes elephant tranks and joins Fu Manchu."

Fear of Fiction Magazine Bristol Issue 10:
The Vigil – The Remainder (Bristol Radar Compilation Vol.1)

“A smack in the face that only a 3-piece can deliver, combining the intensity of Nirvana and power of QOTSA.”

Gaz E www.uberrock.co.uk - Live Review Everclear 02 Academy Bristol 1-4-13

"The first band on, maybe surprisingly, are the ones that leave the biggest mark: The Vigil are a Bristol band who have been added to the show as local support but pretty much steal it from the two bands above them. They ply their trade in '90s-influenced (heavily and heavy) alt rock and, while there's a definite Nirvana vibe to some of the songs, I'm also left thinking of the fuzzy, retrofied sounds on the last Redd Kross album, 'Researching The Blues'. Ones to keep an eye out for..."

"My friend and I looked at each other and mouthed 'Wow.' We had entered a proper rock show. Watching The Vigil made you want to pick up an instrument and rock out."
