A magical mix of 8 songwriters, artists and dreamers on a journey to tap into India's rich musical and poetic heritage, to create a contemporary and global sound "One of the most energetic and enthralling live acts to come out of India. Having played countless gigs in over a dozen countries, winning numerous national awards and recognitions, Masala Coffee are capturing hearts all over the world. The brainchild of percussionist Varun Sunil, Masala Coffee was formed late 2014 and shot to YouTube stardom through their performances on Indian television channel Kappa TV's 'Music Mojo' episodes. His catchy arrangements of popular folk songs for the band went viral and the music has since captivated audiences across the globe. Varun's powerful and entertaining percussion playing is a definite showstopper!Lead vocalist Sooraj Santosh, already an acclaimed singer in the Indian music circuit, brought an unmatched vocal prowess to the band that helped them transcend genre, language and culture. His voice has become synonymous with the wave of contemporary Indian music. The bands distinctive alternative sound stems from the guitar duties of seasoned musicians David Crimson and Preeth PS (or the twin towers as they are candidly referred to by band mates!) Constantly infusing traditional acoustic sounds to futuristic sonic drones they make each song tell a different story.Staying true to their rich Indian influence, Masala coffee has seen a number of traditional Indian instrumentalists to collaborate with them on record and live. From Arshad Khan, the maestro behind the iconic sound of the esraj on Masala Coffee's early releases to Parth Chandiramani virtuoso flautist featured on their upcoming album and sensational sarangi player Shah Rukh Khan on tour. Currently, the band performs with the young and ingenious violin player Krishnaraj.Having undergone numerous changes in the rhythm department, Paul Joseph on bass guitar and Daya Sankar on drums have finally teamed up to be the backbone of the band. Super tight, ultra groovy and an uncanny ability to bring the funk out of everything, these two musical heavyweights hold the fort for Masala Coffee. Uber talented pianist, keyboard player and gear geek Joe Johnson complete the band's line-up. He brings in a sound to the band that is unique and pushes every composition to take an unsuspecting turn with his witty musical ideas. As Sooraj often introduces him, he is Masala Coffee's "all in all", the band's prized possession, Binoy BT. He is the head crew member and occasionally the second percussionist! An integral part of the band, without him everything would be haywire on stage and off it.Catch them LIVE in concert.
