Miramar Biography
Miramar performs boleros and rockmanticas as well as repertoire from all over Latin America with a spotlight on women composers and music from Puerto Rico.
Their sound features the “lush parallel harmonies of vocalists Rei Álvarez and Laura Ann Singh” (Roots World), as well as arrangements by pianist and bandleader Marlysse Simmons.
Their debut album released by Brooklyn’s Barbes Records in 2016 was in dedication to the unsung hero of the Puerto Rican bolero, Sylvia Rexch. In 2019, they released two original bolero-rock songs on the legendary Daptone Records. Miramar’s set sometimes includes songs from Brazil, Greece and Russia that came out of similar international romantic song movements of the 1960’s.
