Peter Knight

Two of the folk world's finest musicians come together for a very special occasion. Peter Knight needs no introduction. His tenure with the legendary Steeleye Span, his staunch support of Feast Of Fiddles and, since 2013, his work with his band Gigspanner have kept him firmly at the top of the folk tree. Gigspanner has developed in ways unpredictable though inspiring, ultimately securing a roots/fusion of wide scope and a unique identity. His playing is underpinned by his fascination with classical and baroque sources but encompasses, jazz rock and many other forms. He is a true master of his instrument. John Spiers, better known in folk circles as Squeezy, has made a name for himself as one of the leading squeezebox players of his generation. 'Well known for his long-standing duo partnership with Jon Boden in the formidable Spiers & Boden as well as his contribution to the massively popular Bellowhead, John has also played with Eliza Carthy's Ratcatchers and a number of folk-dance bands. Also classically trained, his blend of elegant, rhythmic and virtuoso playing brings a new dimension to the folk tradition. In the summer of 2016, the organisers of FolkEast Festival had the grand idea of pairing Peter and John for a special 'one off' concert at that year's festival. It ended up being a genuine festival highlight, with no space to be found in the marquee and people standing five deep in pouring rain. For a few minutes at the close of their performance, with a standing ovation and roars for more, it was one of those occasions when people could say "I was there". It was also clear that leaving matters there was not an option. Plans were laid and a duo album, 'Well Met', duly appeared in March this year, together with a short nationwide tour to promote the album. The success of both the album and the tour has prompted further collaboration and they are now working on a special Christmas/Winter-based show. Don't miss it!!
