About this concert
The Big Comfy Bookshop proudly presents the award winning acoustic evening 'Comfy & Acoustic'.\nIntimate performances from the best UK (and beyond) musicians covering folk, Americana, singer-songwriters and roots\nThe Shackleton Trio\nThe Shackleton Trio (formerly The Georgia Shackleton Trio) play an exciting blend of Americana, folk and self-penned material. Accompanying herself on the fiddle, Georgia writes and performs 'wordy songs about other people', instrumentally influenced by British, American and Scandinavian folk traditions, with a regional twist from her native East Anglia.\nGeorgia's skills as a singer and instrumentalist have been put to the test in numerous different contexts, and this trio sees her teaming up with guitar powerhouse Aaren Bennett and mandolin ace Nic Zuppardi. Together they have toured the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands, appeared at Rotterdam Bluegrass Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival, Towersey Festival, Broadstairs Folk Week, Folk East, and concert halls and folk clubs across the UK.\nMe For Queen\nMe for Queen aka Mary Erskine is inspired by people and their stories. Growing up feral in rural Fife/Scotland in a big old house near the sea, she started writing songs when she was 13, around the same time that she started dressing herself.\nYears of classical training together with a Blues guitarist for a father make for an interesting mix of Soul and Folk. Me For Queen's piano-based songs draw obvious comparisons to Regina Spektor and Carol King but manage to fuse hints of Kate Bush and Laura J Martin. Mary cites Judee Sill & This is the Kit as a few of her favourites and says Me For Queen is a sort of sketchpad for whatever's happening in my head. I just try to write songs that talk to people.\nHer much-anticipated forthcoming album, Loose End will be her first full-length offering as a solo artist. Teaming up with Jim Wallis at Bella Union Studios, this record sees her explore a more varied sonic landscape, moving away from her piano-led sound into richly orchestrated arrangements, blending a live full-band sound with a contemporary edge.\nSaskia\nSaskia is a 25 year old independent English singer-songwriter, known for her pure, clear voice and her nu-folk style repertoire. Previously one of the worlds youngest craniosacral therapists, and practicing on Harley Street, London, in 2014 she left it all behind to move to the West country and pursue a successful career in music.\nShe has since released three E.P.'s (Gentle Heart Collection, The Presence E.P., and Night and Day E.P.), crowdfunded her debut album 'Gentle Heart', and in 2016, and she has supported some big names such as Sally Barker and performed sell out concerts in both large and small venues across South England.\nFrequently compared to Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell and Eva Cassidy for her extraordinary vocal tone, Saskia's original songs draw on the genre's of Americana, roots & darker folk music.\nAfter being interviewed on BBC Radio (BBCGlos and BBCrb), reviewed in online blogs (Folk-Phenomena, Jelli Records), magazines (The Living Tradition, What's Afoot Magazine) and featured in papers from Gloucestershire to Norfolk, this young singer-songwriter is leaving a powerful and lasting impression on industry professionals and fans alike.\nStage Times\nThe Shackleton Trio 9.45-10.30\nMe For Queen 8.50-9.30\nSaskia 8.00-8.35\nThe bookshop bar will be open serving hot and cold drinks, wine and beer plus snacks. \nNo other food or drink to be brought into the premises.\nFor details of the bookshop please visit\nwww.thebigcomfybookshop.co.uk\nwww.facebook.com/thebigcomfybookshop\nwww.twitter.com/bigcomfybooks\nwww.instagram.com/bigcomfybooks\nwww.bigcomfysessions.com\nNOTE: If you are late you'll have to wait for the acts to finish their set/song to avoid interrupting the performance
