Skout Biography
Skout is the musical alter-ego of Nashville-based singer, songwriter, and guitarist Laura Valk best known for smart, introspective storytelling seamlessly weaved between show-stopping acoustic guitar work. Most often writing and performing alongside her best friend and longtime collaborator Connor Gladney, Skout boasts the guitar chops of Ben Howard, the live show energy of Johnnyswim, and the lyrical prowess of Phoebe Bridgers.
Skout’s independent releases have topped the Spotify Viral charts online and grabbed the attention of multiple platinum recording artists in-person. After seeing them live, Adam Duritz of Counting Crows remarked, “they just blew my mind…they are both incredible guitar players.” American Songwriter praised her latest single, “Nothing At All” as the embodiment of “Folk song honesty, pop melody magnetism, and sheer music precision.” Skout’s work has tackled difficult topics like anxiety, depression, and loss, while still maintaining a mesmerizing, upbeat live show. Skout has shared the stage with Eric Hutchinson, the War & Treaty, Delta Rae, ZZ Ward, Will Evans, Bailen, and many others. Proudly independent, her music has been featured by American Songwriter, Earmilk, Popmatters, GroundSounds, Music Connection, Taylor Guitars, MTV and NBC.
