Singer, songwriter, guitarist, arranger and producer Johnny Rawls draws on the 1950s and 1960s deep soul-blues tradition in his guitar playing, but his lyrics and singing are timeless. \nRawls got his early musical education from his grandfather, John Paul Newson, a blind guitarist who played around Mississippi. Rawls began playing clarinet and saxophone in third grade, and by the time he was in his teens, Rawls was backing singers like Joe Tex and Z.Z. Hill. By the mid-1970s, he had joined O.V. Wright's band, working with Wright until his death in 1980. After Wright's death, the band continued to perform, touring with artists like B.B. King, Little Milton Campbell, Bobby Bland, Little Johnny Taylor, and others.\nJohnny’s latest album, “Waiting for the Train,” was nominated for Soul Blues Album of the Year at the 2018 Blues Music Awards, and Rawls was nominated for Soul Blues Male Artist of the Year. \nDance space will be available at this show.\nDoors open at 7:30 PM.
