About this concert
8/17 AHI, Craig Marker\nAbout AHI:\nAHI: YOUTUBE   WEBSITE\n“When it comes to songwriting, my stuff has to be honest, and I have to feel like the song I sing can be spoken to someone or said to someone in a conversation. I have to be able to see myself in the narrator’s seat, and even if it’s not my specific story there has to be something in the song that’s coming from my voice and persona.” -AHI\nhttps://ahimusic.com/faq/ \nWhat genre do you consider yourself?\nI’m a songwriter-singer but if you ask different people they’ll say different things. Maybe I’m Alt-Folk, Indie Pop, Indie Soul, Adult Alternative, or even Americana (even though I’m from Canada). I guess my genre depends on who’s listening.\nWho’s your favourite musician of all time?\nMy pantheon is Bob Marley, Tupac Shakur (2Pac) and Michael Jackson. But if I had to pick one, it would forever be Marley.\nFrom NPR Tiny Desk:\n"The first time I heard the music of AHI (pronounced "eye") was in the midst of listening to 120 other song submissions for the DIY Musicians Conference panel I was hosting in Nashville back in August. It simply rose above everything else I heard.\nAHI's gruff but sweet voice and openly honest words were my gateway to this young Ontario-based singer. Later that summer night in Nashville, I saw him perform an uplifting set of original, soulful tunes, ending with a cover of Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come," a song AHI says he sings at the end of every set with a sense of hope. It was powerfully moving, without a note that felt clichéd or overly nostalgic. At that moment, I knew he needed to play a Tiny Desk Concert.\nAHI's performance here at my desk didn't disappoint. In fact, it won over a roomful of NPR employees and some friends who came by to take a chance on a new discovery. With a tasteful band comprised of Frank Carter Rische on electric guitar, Robbie Crowell on bass guitar and Shawn Killaly (a man of a million faces) on drums, AHI put his heart into three songs in just about 11 minutes, all from his debut album We Made It Through The Wreckage, which came out a year ago this week.\nAHI ended on the song that first attracted my attention this past summer in Nashville, the song "Ol' Sweet Day." With an uplifting beat and warm sentiment, it simply feels undeniable and universal in its expression of love.\n"I've got a lot to learnYou've got a lot to giveWe can go anywhereRebuild this broken bridgeYou've got a heart of goldI've got a mind that goesOn and on and on to places we'll never know,But I just want to be with you when the day is doneWhen the darkness comesWhen the ol' sweet day is done"\nAbout Craig:\n...\n@ Fremont Abbey Arts Center8:00p show, 7:00p doors\n$10 general advance (not including fees)\n$12 Day of Show\nAll ages, mostly seated, bar w/ID\n-----------------------------------------------------------\nABBEY ARTS EVENT INFO:\n- Fremont Abbey is ADA accessible on either level.- We have a mix of normal chairs, some tall chairs, and standing room in back.- Seating is not reserved unless noted.- Please refrain from talking or texting during the show.- Please limit photos during the show.- No video from the seating area please. - We are an all ages venue. - Kids 10 & under are free at Abbey Arts concerts & arts events unless noted.- Arts Connect provides free tickets for nonprofit workers, low income families, and veterans- Volunteer opportunities are available for most shows (include free entry) www.fremontabbey.org/volunteer- Entering the venue indicates agreement to adhere to the Abbey Respect Policy. AHI Biography

With a voice like “gravel on silk”, indie-soul/alt-folk songwriter AHI (pronounced “eye”) is a rare talent with the keen ability to deliver a story with the ease and familiarity of an old friend. Favouring passion over precision, it's easy to see why comparisons to Richie Havens, Ray LaMontagne and Tracy Chapman are common for this soulful troubadour. From humble beginnings in Brampton, Ontario, AHI independently toured over 100,000 miles, through the vast woodlands of Canada and the neon lights of Nashville, to the Guggenheim Museum in New York, and eventually beyond the Atlantic to the brick lanes of London. Along the way, he has recorded with leading acoustic sessions across the UK and Europe, but none has been more viewed than a simple home video of his stunning rendition of Bob Marley’s ‘No Woman No Cry’, filmed in a London alleyway and accompanied by the sweet harmonies of his three-year-old daughter. The video caught the attention of the Marley family who featured it on the official BobMarley.com website and sent AHI a personalized note from Mrs. Rita Marley herself – an unparalleled experience for an artist who cites Bob Marley as his greatest musical inspiration. Soon after, AHI returned to find his Indie Soul EP (2014) was chosen one of CBC Radio One’s top 10 records of the year, and he has since been recognized and awarded by Folk Alliance International, Nashville Songwriters Association International, the Songwriters Association of Canada, and the Canada Council for the Arts, among others. For his debut full-length We Made It Through The Wreckage (2017), AHI has collaborated with CMA winning producer Eric Masse (Miranda Lambert) to create what Masse has called an entirely "new genre", blending folk, soul and rock, and topping it off with a vocal performance to be expected from a seasoned powerhouse rather than an indie debut. The feel-good single Ol' Sweet Day broke the Billboard Spotify Viral 50 Chart and hit #34 on the U.S. Viral 50 without any promotion or marketing. The track took off on playlists worldwide and surpassed 1 million streams; a rare feat for an artist yet to make his mark. Now a 2017 finalist in the Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class, it’s not hard to see why AHI is one of Canada’s most promising emerging acts.
