Miguel Rivera Biography
Miguel Rivera is a Spanish acoustic guitar player.
On June 22 2015 he attracted the attention all over the World with his acoustic guitar performance of Michael Jackson’s ‘Beat it’. He plays 3 parts of the song simultaneously, the riff of the song, the vocals and the percussion part.
Miguel was born in Zaragoza (Spain) on march 3 1981. He started to play guitar at the age of 14, using an old Spanish guitar. He studied electric guitar and harmony in Zaragoza during 5 years and played numerous concerts and performances. In 2002 he moved to Madrid where he studied piano, vocals, orchestration and film scoring. In 2005 he released an álbum with his band ‘YOD’. He started to give private guitar clases in Madrid.
In 2010 he opened his YouTube channel uploading tutorial videos at first, and then, original compositions like ‘Hope’ and ‘Oneiric Tales’.
‘Guitar World’ magazine, ‘Guitar Player’ magazine and many other media platforms wrote about Rivera’s acoustic cover of Michael Jackson’s “Beat it”, emphasizing the virtuosity of the rendition.
Miguel released his first acoustic guitar Album “The Valley” in June 2016. The Album was funded through a successful crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.com platform. The album contains 5 wonderful percussive acoustic guitar arrangements and 5 original compositions. I on e of the arrangements “Man of Constant Sorrow” Miguel plays guitar an sings as well, chords, percussion, melody and vocal melody at the same time.
The past October 2016 Miguel toured Spain with the Great American Grammy Winner guitarist Mark Hanson. The tour was a resounding success. The concerts received wonderful reviews.
In 2018 he has published his "Percussive Acoustic Guitar Method Volume I" , An instructional book with some of his secret and avant-garde techniques for guitar. Available worldwide on Amazon. Miguel hs set a "Fingerstyle Guitar Camp" for this Summer in Spain.
