What to look for in wedding musicians:
Educated, literate musicians who are trained and can read music;
Dress and presentation;
Depth, diversity and authenticity of repertoire;
Performance philosophy (it is not about the musician’s personal preferences, they must truly enjoy many styles and pleasing people;
The client/audience dictates what is played;
A demonstrated understanding of the business model;
An ability and desire to communicate effectively with people; to emcee tastefully, read and bond a crowd, and facilitate the event’s progress.
Versatility and Experience
Gil is a native of Portland, Maine and a cum laude graduate of Berklee College of Music, Boston.
As a professional bandleader and freelance guitarist since the age of 15, Gil has logged literally thousands of gigs of every kind - from "bars to black tie".
Gil is also a certified music educator (grades K-12) with over 30 years experience as a concert band, jazz band, choral conductor and classroom instructor. He also serves as a test rater for the national NES/PRAXIS music certification test.
His jazz ensembles have earned several state titles in combo and big band. Gil founded the Maine High School Jazz All-Stars who opened for Dave Brubeck, Cleo Laine, Herbie Hancock and Wynton Marsalis during the 2000 - 2004 Maine Jazz Festivals.
